- We turned the ball over five times, and still had a chance to win through the first .... 59 minutes or so. Five years ago, we would have lost this game by 30.
- Adrian Haywood and Brandon Bonds were fantastic today. They were in the offensive backfield all afternoon, and made a lot of big tackles. Haywood's sack was impressive.
- Nnabuife played well. Terrific play on the interception, and he wrapped up his tackles today.
- Offensive line was much better. Maybe that's how they played at UAB -- I wasn't there. But they were MUCH better today than they were against Tulane. Romo didn't take too many shots, and Martin had tons of room.
- Nice to see a few balls thrown in Kennedy's direction (but did he trip over the line on the field?). And Devin Lowery looked good, too. How about Zack Sledge? He was a stud today.
Final analysis: we still lost, and that still sucks.
Time for another circle-the-wagons game ....

good to see that Givens didn't go to the end of the bench after all. Guess he just is playing QB part-time which was the reason for the number change. He caught it this time for one of the bigger plays of the game. How many big plays have our inside receivers made this year? It is getting pretty ridiculous not to get our best athletes on the field. Why do we put Lowery and Givens outside and put Chase and Pellerin on the bench. I got it why not get Chase, Pellerin, Lowery and Givens on the field at the same time. We got too many good athletes logjamed at RB about 4 deep too. Look Martin despite his fumbles is going to be the guy-he will make some mistakes until he gets some experience but that does mean we can't get guys like Turner and Henderson on the field at other positions. One of our top weapons-Henderson-never even touches the ball. But I did watch the second half of the USC game-they find all kinds of ways to get the ball to him with his speed. Wasted year for these guys-instead we are playing guys who do nothing to build this program for the future.

Plusses:
-McMurtray and Mentzel were both solid today. Mentzels punt downed
at the one was awesome.
-Romo's pooch punt worked (Now lets put that away for a while).
-Warren was solid on punt returns. I like his confidence. He
wants to take it back and believes he will every time. I like that.
-Defense for the most part was solid. Many big stops.
-Martin ran well.
-Solid game for Bennett. No major blunders
Downside:
-Henderson got no oppotunities (Their kicker was strong today)
-Not enough pressure by our DLine on their QB.
-Breakdown in coverage on 3rd down that hurt bad and cost us 7 ( a
couple of plays later).
-Minus 4 in turnovers. This team can't overcome that.
Summary:
If we're even on the TO's today we walk away with it.

Let's not forget, as Stallion said, how good it is to see Givens make a couple of plays. He's a terrific athlete, I gather, and maybe a day like today is just what he needs to get jumpstarted.

Agreed - Givens looks like he's extremely fast. A little confidence at wide receiver, and we might have a weapon on our hands.
