Good game today Mustangs..

Postby ECUPirates1 » Sat Oct 15, 2005 7:04 pm

You guys played tough, even with all the turnovers we were fortunate to pull that one out. I was impressed with your big men on both sides and that tailback looks great. I heard he was a RS Frosh? That guy ought to be a good one for you.

The lack of fans in the stands looked really bad on TV. I hate that for you diehards, I know it hurts when people don't show up. I guess that started when you got the DP. When I read about the "game of the century" against TCU back in '35, it said the game was played in front of over 75k. I am a big traditionalist, especially when it comes to college football. This season I've enjoyed seeing ND, Bama, and PSU make their respective comebacks. I hope SMU can reemerge one day.

Good luck the rest of the season, I will look to visit before our next contest.

Thank you. Yes, with 6 turnovers you would think we would lose by a much bigger margin. Our defense did a decent job stopping the Pirates although had another tough time make the tackles after the initial contact...seems to be a trend this year. Offense didn't help out the D today at all.

It is extremely frustrating seeing so few fans there today.

Good luck the rest of the way.

you know a lot of those missed tackles in the backfield have more to do with big strong mobile QBs-we've played 4 in a row not including McNeil who is the quickest. Ours is sitting on the sideline.

Actually, the west side (shady home side) had a bunch of fans, and the north end zone had a lot of Fellowship of Christian Athletes members. Some of the east side fans may have migrated to the shady side during the game because it was fairly hot for this time of October.

My estimate on attendance is around 12,000. In 35, when that game was played, there was no stadium anywhere near here that would hold over 75k. I think that game was played in TCU's Amon Carter in Fort Worth which holds about 45k today.

11K and change was the official count a the gate. I believe it. Marginal crowd on the alumni side. Bunch of FCA kids in the north endzone. Desert in the student's section.

Pretty sad for such a beautiful day, against a team we coulda/shoulda beat and coming off a road win to boot.

I go to Longview games, and know the size of the stadium to be around 10,000. Its a bowl very much like Ford, but without the upper sections, and north end-zone. I ACTUALLY HAVE a reference point to base my estimations.

Go figure :!: %#@$#@ lawyer.

You're right, it was only 37k in 1935 .. it must have been 75k at one of your other "greatest moments" I was confused about.

My sons SVAA football game started at 3:00 so I had to miss the game. I thought that they were going to have the start times for future SMU games at 5:00 to avoid these conflicts? BTW my kid is a linebacker and wideout and had at least 5 tackles and a fumble recovery for the game. A future pony to be!

if it was 11,000 paid there were no more than 8,500 in the stands. How many were free-I brought 3.

Sorry bud, its a visual estimate. attendance = area covered X estimated
density. Nope, not the density of the visual estimator. 8)

A 7 o clock kickoff seems to work better for everyone. Then again who schedules Homecoming on opening weekend of Deer Season in Texas??

give an SMU fan ANY REASON not to show up to support their team and more and more are taking advantage of the alternatives.
