Romo giveth, Romo taketh awayI have a hard time understanding how he could play so bad today. He looked like he had little confidence or energy despite last week. I'll excuse Martins mistakes because he is young, but you cant have a senior making all those mistakes. Can we get Phillips some playing time now please and let him show what he can or cannot do?
Defense basically didnt give up any points in the second half.
Romo basically didn't hit the wall until desperation time in the 4th. Liked your title, but Phillips hasn't really giveth yet.
Umm, yes you absolutely can blame Martin for the drops. Drops are running back 101, so he shoulda passed that class as a true freshman last year.
I never played QB, so I'm no authority. But it looked to me that several times Romo was trying to force in shots that weren't there. He also didn't appear to progress to second and third reads in several instances, but stared down and threw at the primary receiver. His tendancy is to run, and maybe he's overcompensating based on last week's success. I think we only ran one designed QB draw today, and that was later in the game. That's been a staple play whenever Romo has been in. My guess is that he's being coached to throw 1st, and it was obviously successful last week. Last week he squeezed a couple in he maybe shouldn't have. This week he had a couple float and they got picked. We did move the ball effectively... until the turnovers.

Champ, chump, or chimp - take your pickRomo can beat a good team, or beat his own team. Consistency is not his game. Until SMU fills their QB needs, we can not have a winnng season.

Hmmm, the twin double posts look like a software error when 2 people post at exactly the same time.
Martin was responsible for 1 turnover on a stripped out fumble I know. Pretty sure, but not completely that somebody got all over him to protect the ball.
Re: Champ, chump, or chimp - take your pick
Yeah, that's why I kinda liked Eckert better than Romo. Eckert seemed to not get as many interceptions, as I watched spring training etc. Maybe knew how to get rid of it quick by throwing it way over some receivers head. May look bad, but you don't get the interception, sack, or grounding penalty ![]()
First, Eckert threw more Ints per attempt than just about any QB in school history. Second how is Martin supposed to learn a damn thing sitting on the bench. He was playing his 6th game. I'd rather lose with somebody with the upside potential than win 0-3 games with a never-will-be.
Give the kid a break......he has played his heart out for us. Yeah, he had a bad game. It happens. But we were in this one until the end, and we should have won it. It's not all his fault. And while I'd like to see some more W's, this team is a heck of a lot more fun to listen to. I'll take this team over anything we've fielded since the late 1990's. The fact is that we are better, but we're still not a good team. We're going to suffer these ups and downs. I just hope we can pull a few more recruits who can see some of these changes (and institute something that vaguely resembles a reasonable transfer policy). I've not always been thrilled with PB, but he does seem to have covered some ground, and Romo is the closest thing to a real quarterback we've had in years. The kid just needs to shake it off, and come out ready to play next week.

Cut n paste, and show me that will ya please ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
You don't expect such rants to be backed up with actual facts, do you?
Stallion, by all means express your opinion, and your mancrush on Phillips is fine, I suppose. But the way you rip Eckert is way out of line. I swear, it sounds like you caught him flirting with your daughter or stealing from you -- a little personal, don't you think? You can have Phillips as your favorite player. Personally, I'm a big fan of Don Ieremia-Stansbury and Justin Rogers. But that doesn't mean I'm going to rip Cory Muse and Troy Therien. "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"

Romo has had two really good games and we won both of them. What a shocker. Yes, the QB position is important. I suppose this season isn't "lost" until we lose our 8th game (ensuring there will be no improvement over last year's record). Even with only 3 wins (because of who we beat) it's easy to see this team is improving.
Watching the CSTV broadcast, it was easy to see that Romo telegraphed where he was going, made several bad reads and threw some floaters out there yesterday. Despite his having a bad game by comparison to the TCU and UAB games, we still had a chance to win this game. That is at least mildly encouraging.
Backed Up With Facts: don't have access to complete stats on lifetime interceptions but last year Eckert's 13 Ints based on 204 attempts is the worst Int/Pass Ratio since the great Todd Ritz in 1991 and my records go back to 1989. His 35% Passing % would rank as the worst starter in SMU History. Thanks for playing!!!
Swell .... but your first post was about Eckert. Personally, I'm worried about Tulsa, not 2004. Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
