Our move to Conference USA is helping to attenuate one of the major problems that have hurt these two sports, the demise of the Southwest Conference. It has been very difficult to recruit to the WAC; therefore, during the last two years the benefits of Conference USA are visible in our recruits for both sports.

WorldStang, you need to send Turner a follow-up letter. Be polite, but state the facts...including what Stallion said about TCU and that our recruiting has NOT improved, but gone downhill last year and this. You have an opening due to your creativeness in sending back your tickets.

The conference argument is weak. TCU is thriving in a remote league. Also, since we came from the amazing SWC (and its recruiting, since he pointed out that recruitment ties directly to current conference), shouldn't we have dominated the lowly WAC outright for the first 3-4 years?

And I know Copeland and Turner weren't even here then, but how do they explain how bad we were in the post DP SWC years? Obviously that can't be just bad luck, there were serious restrictions on the athletic dept. I'd like to see Turner acknowledge this and explain what has changed, and what is still in the works.

I'm very worried that nothing is really in the works right now, and they're just glad we're in CUSA, and they'll sit back and wait for the championships, recruits, and ESPN gameday crews to come rolling in.

What is SMU actively doing to support an athletic department that will compete for conference and national championships in revenue sports?

Ballet:

Fort Worth has the Texas Ballet Theatre and Dallas-none.

Perfoming Arts Halls:

Dallas-none Fort Worth-the Bass Hall.

Dowtown entertainment districts:

Dallas, the West End-ahahahahahahahah

Fort Worth-Sundance Square.

Areas that go back to city roots:

Dallas-?

Fort Worth-the Stockyards.

Dallas is both a cultural and a civic wasteland as compared to Fort Worth. Kinda like New Jersey to New York.

The Meadows Museum houses the largest collection of Spanish art anywhere in the world outside of Spain. For anyone who thinks "so what..." keep in mind that Picasso was Spanish and we have several works of his. The King of Spain flew in and toured the museum when the new building opened a few years ago.

Dallas has no performing arts halls? What the hell is the Meyerson then? It is home to the DSO and Dallas Wind Symphony. The DWS is directed by Jerry Junkin, arguably the country's best wind conductor now that Revelli and Fennell are dead.

Since I'm not a big fan of ballet, I'll give you Fort Worth boys the edge there. Congrats!

The Meyerson is a symphony hall. The Meadows Museum is not on par with any of the museums listed (wow, several Picassos, you should be proud) and The Dallas Wind Symphony, ahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Bottom line is Dallas is not on par with Fort Worth when it comes to cultural arts or college football (yea I know who won this year, but who is ranked and who is a bottom feeder?).

I try to make it a point to not agree with Stallion , but he is right on here. I get so sick of the Dallas vs Ft Worth and SMU vs TCU (academics) arguments. No one is going to win....different strokes for different folks.

There is so much idiocy in this thread, it is ridiculous. Why is anybody arguing over art museums and concert halls? Do you even have a point? I grew up in FW; I love FW. FW's art scene kicks Dallas' [deleted]. Better museums; better performance hall; hell, better zoo. Dallas couldn't even keep a functioning ballet. So what? What does that have to do with anything? With the exception of minor league hockey and baseball, everybody in FW still has to travel a minimum of 30 miles to see a pro sports team. They still have to travel a minimum of 45 miles to see a rock band. They still have to travel 60 miles to find a Nordstroms or a Tiffany's.

BTW, Mustang Sally, SMU did do better in the first few years of the WAC than it ever did: 5-6; 6-5; 5-6. Did we dominate? No. But compared to any other time post-DP we did better.
