The team was flat.
The fans were flat.
The gameday atmosphere was flat.
The sodas were flat.
Congratulations, Pirates. You took the wind out of our sails.

Sat in my seats alone in the row...took to reading a book in the third quarter...what an uninspired effort. I've seen bands larger than the student turnout. It maybe time to clean house.
What?...you want new students??? I'll second that.
I counted the students with 8:14 left in the 3rd quarter. Facing the east side, there were 67 "students" (not counting the the FCA boys who moved over there to the front railing to stare at our hoochie dancers) in the section to the right of the Mustang Band. In the section just to the right of them, there were 94. I think 5 yell leaders and real Peruna would be sufficient. Each one would be in charge of 30 students. Right now, we've got 20 cheerleaders, 16 dancers, 5 Peruna keepers (who can't begin to run) 1 full time "real" Peruna, and 1 part-time costumed Peruna to lead the charge.
It's pretty sad when the people in the stands get more excited about catching a t-shirt fired from a 'spud gun' than the game itself!

...fellas, fellas....wake up, get a grip...besides a VERY short period of time, namely when some guys named Lance, Eric, and Craig were running around, this university has NEVER had GREAT student or alum participation....healthy, fired up crowds and SMU football don't really go together, especially in the last 20+ years....FIRE Doug Single...FIRE Coach Gregg...FIRE Copeland, why?? Single couldn't do it...Gregg didn't do it, and now it's Copeland's fault?? Hardly......by some miracle of miracles, IF we ever win, and SUSTAIN IT (more than 1-2-3 games), people will SLOWLY start showing back up.....45,000..NO...32,000, probably not...25,000, more likely, if we are lucky. With Houston going down, and ECU being beatable, this last weekend was REALLY a potential turning point (YES!, I got suduced, again, too...!)...but, we showed where this program really is....a manic depressive bunch of kids. Maybe we should pass out lithium at the next pep rally........when is Dr. Phil going to do a case study on this whacked out program and fandom?? Long Live Alvin Maxson.
Oh, I beg to differ on that. SMU had GREAT student participation following WWII (late 1940s) and throughout the 1950s to the 1970s. Go look at some old Rotundas from that era. I think you'll see a BIG difference. I attended plenty of games from 1960-1982 and saw GREAT student participation. As for alumni participation, the same holds true. As the alumni of the pre-40s, 40s, 50s, etc. begin to pass on, the roster has fallen off considerably. Being the husband of an SMU graduate, I haven't seen that much effort put forth by the SMU Alumni Association to fill its ranks. I recall my parents being VERY involved in alumni activities in the 60s, 70s and early 80s. There was the annual 'Sustentation Drive' (my parents manned the phone banks while I got coffee and soft drinks for the other phone operators) along with numerous Homecoming activities each year, just to name a few.
I have to agree to some extent with Mr. Mustang, I can't say that attendance used to be better, but aside from the Mustang Band, there has been no effort whatsoever from the university to inform me of what's going on, or to try to get me into the ranks of the alumni association. I am only a member of the Mustang Club because another band alum encouraged me to become a member. My wife is also an SMU alum, and the same goes for her, there has been little to no contact by the University to let us know what is happening just down the street. Now, we have made the effort, and show up to the games and some of the other events, (and now that I am a student again I have a better idea of what is going on) but the University makes no effort, that I am aware of to bring in the alums, or as LawSchoolPony has said, the graduate students, or for that matter the undergrads. All I ever remember seeing promoting ANY of our games be it football, bball, soccer, etc. was a sign that said what game was when, they then just expected everybody to show up. While that might work at a school with a successful big time program, it doesn't work for us.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
