I'm not necessarily saying I agree with this, but the committee has explicitly stated that their goal is to find the 4 "best" teams and not the 4 "most deserving" teams.

If that's what actually happens. Dumb. Go to 8 allow the conference winners of each P5 (regardless of rank or record) get a spot in the playoff and get 3 at larges. Let's go. Beating a team in the regular season HAS to count for something.

You can't pick a "best" team, football is about match ups. You can pick tiers of teams and 4 out of 120+ is not enough. There are more top tier than 4. Need 8

This 4 team playoff has created one of the most interesting NCAA football championship seasons in as long as I can remember, but I do like the 8 team idea or we are forever going to be on the outside looking in because 4 teams will eventually lead to there being only 4 "power" conferences

I don't see it that way. You think the SEC will accept one guaranteed spot for each conference champion? I would think that SEC pride would get in the way thinking that in most years they could bump the ACC or BIG to land two teams in the top 4.
