I don't know how we made it to all those afternoon games when I was at SMU. We had some good years and some bad years, but by and large the student body went to the games. We chartered buses, put kegs on the buses, went to the Cotton Bowl, or drove to the Fairgrounds. This made it much more difficult than just walking out of your dorm and into the stadium or a party. If you schedule games at night, the frats and sororities will have parties that compete with the games. If you schedule games during the day, there's not enough pregame drinking time (what about keeping the Blvd. open for 2 hours after the game). If you put games at 5 p.m., families will complain about the dinner hour. There will always be excuses for not caring. And that sums up the current student body.
How about this excuse: watching a bad team lose week in and week out gets downright unentertaining and some people would rather be entertained on their weekends.
bottom line, nothing will change until the school makes significant visible changes to improve competitive standing. people won’t commit their time and energy until the school does. right now, there have been comments in the paper about progress toward change, but the school needs to come out and state the facts. at this point, some change doesn’t cut it. show that smu is not fighting a losing battle against the rest of the c-usa opponents. until the playing field is level, nothing will change.
Excuse me, but 5:00 pm is the hottest part of the day. 2:00 pm is only warming up. Haven't you ever watched the news at noon and seen that the temperature then is at least 5 - 8 degrees cooler than it is at 5:00? Complaining about the 2:00 pm gametime temp. won't cut it.

Not to mention it was a beautiful day. I could understand if it was August and we were playing 2pm games but come on, you are just looking for an excuse if that is the best you can do.
I was there at 2:00pm, regardless and stayed for the entire game. That's more than I can say about most of the student body (and those on this board). It was not an excuse for not going. It just made the game that much more painful to watch.

Glad you know the attendance habits of everyone on this board. I was on the boulevard by 10:30, was in the game 15 minutes prior to kickoff and didn't see the game time as being a problem. What exactly is so bad about a 2:00 pm kickoff?

What's so bad? I'll tell you. It is October 19th and the expected high is 94 degrees today. Last Saturday my kids' games started at 12:30 and 4:45. A 7:00 PM Kickoff and the whole family could of made it. Full Steam Ahead!
Do you need anymore ice? Let me help you arrange those deck chairs.
well i guess it is a good thing the game isn't today then right? I'm sorry your kids game times conflict with the SMU gametime, I suppose they should just do a poll of all the people that could possibly attend games and see what time works best for the majority of people. There is an old saying, "Excuses are like @$$holes...." They can't cater to everyone that has conflicting kids soccer games, dinner plans, family events, etc. It just won't work. I really wanted to watch the Notre Dame/USC game, I can't believe they scheduled it at the same time, I mean they should have asked me first. Give me a break.
You're right, so don't [deleted] about attendance when other people's priorities keep them from the games. SMU has fallen far down the list for many people when it comes to family, weddings, entertainment, etc. Hell, I took a five year old and her mom to the fair last weekend, and missed that ECU pounding, and had a helluva lot of fun instead.
don't think i was [deleted] about attendance, but I am tired of people using the damn gametime as an excuse for not attending. they would find a reason to not attend whether the game was at 2 or 5 or 7 or midnight.
