To the Seniors
The last couple of years didn't turn out the way any of us wanted on the football field. The coach who recruited you left, for whatever circumstances and many of your teamates suffered season ending injuries. As you exit the stage, all of the attention is on a new coaching regime and the optimism that always comes with that turn of events, and there is no successful season to relish. But you shouldn't be forgotten.
I want to congratulate you for the two, in some cases three, bowl games that you earned during your college career. There was a time in my life when I didn't think that SMU would ever have a winning season again but you proved me wrong. Thank you for staying academically eligible, and thank you for coming to SMU. The old guys, like me, who post on this board grouse and complain a lot, but it is because we love the school and want you to be successful. I hope that you all earn your degrees, become successes in life, and that you are better people for having played and studied at SMU.

Thanks for the post and I share your pride in these Seniors. There is a life lesson, which was earned the hard way. You finished the season and your college careers with pride.

SMU will win, and win big again. Make this your reality and let's work on making it true. Don't let anyone tell us we aren't good enough. We can be as big or bigger than we have been. Go Mustangs!!! Til the day I die!

These guys have seen the highs and lows in their four or five year career. A tough season to say the least but a good win to end your SMU career. Best wishes and God speed to all of you
GO MUSTANGS!

Re: To the Seniors
Im guessing that win meant more to them, and to the coaches, then we will ever know. It is such a different feeling ending your career with a win then with never having achieved one.
Im hoping someone picks up Coach Mason. I'm in no position to have any idea about how good a coach he is - but he seems like a very fine person.

Really, really felt great for Pope. This season obviously turned out no where near what he expected when he decided to return for one more year.
He was one of the many walking wounded and a lesser player and man wouldn't have even played today Fought thru and even caused a huge fumble towards the end. Hopefully Morris will recruit a bunch of Kevin Pope's in the near future.

I will never forget Kevin's turn at running back against UCF last year. Quite a talent and I always enjoy seeing a guy from the defensive side taking on a role where they get to carry the ball a few times.
