Every team in the conference plays each so they do have head to head competition in the Big 12.

Great argument....until the committee decides it isn't valid and ignores it. When that happens, you just turn into the crazy guy holding a sign in the rain yelling at cars. Then again, at least that dude usually ends up with beer money.

I guess some people will look at Baylor and TCU as even because Baylor had home field advantage. So someone voting may say Baylor had home field advantage of 3 points and that's all Baylor won by so it's even.

A committee is so stupid.
It reminds me of 7th grade cheerleader tryouts where we had to perform individually in front of our own grade and let the students vote who they wanted so it was just a popularity contest. Several girls who were better at cheerleading were left off the team.

Possibly the best/worst explanation of how crappy all Poll/BCS/Playoff formats have been.

It seems most seem to think a Conference Champ game is best way to decide best team.

Problems with this logic...

1) Creates an unbalanced schedule where some teams play much tougher
teams.
2) don't get true champion because you don't play a round robin

3) the very real potential exists for conferences with divisions and Championship
games, for these conferences to manipulate the results, to self serve themselves..

i.e.
a) insignificant underdog in Champ game to
please take a dive for the better of ones own conference $$$$$

b) officials call the the champ game in favor of the team with best chance to make Final Four.

I believe Big 12 might be best served by keeping the true Round Robin and have the top 2
teams play each other a 2nd time in a Championship game. That actually makes
more sense than what the other conferences are doing.

But ultimately I hope they are swayed in to adding teams to Conference.

Ultimately though, not much arguing with the top 3 so if you get snubbed out of 4, oh
well, you probably were not the best anyway. I do believe this to be the case.

Trotter: It would take us a step in that direction. A Big 12 official told me over the summer that it would take getting left out three years in a row for the league to rethink expansion. But it's going to really sting if two 11-1 teams are left out. I would think that would at least force the league to have a discussion about whether its current format is really the best path to the playoff.

Its all the talking heads on T.V who are right now denigrating the big 12 (while simultaneously making love to tOSU) who the Big 12 ought to be worried about. Many of these knuckleheads including tOSU alum Herbstreit are dissing TCU at every opportunity.

With guys like Barry Alvarez (B10 biased) and C.Rice(war criminal) making these decisions as members of the playoff committee I would be very very worried if I were TCU/Baylor.

Likely they get no one in this year. Unjustly in my view but Ohio State plays in front of 100k plus crowds every week. Shades of SMU's 1982 season when we were trumped by a PSU team that got obliterated at Alabama that season.

On this night I'm pulling for TCU.

It's bad news for the Big12. Get ready for conference realignment. Not looking good for the AAC and us.

I'veI heard that the NCAA requires 12+ teams for a conference title game.

I know. and it's a stupid rule for reasons I outlined. But I have to admit, the rule is one of our only ways for
SMU to get back in.

SMU is trying to get into the Big 12, and yet some ponyfans want the Big 12 to stay at 10 and advocate to make the P5s much smaller. Wow. SWC did round robin and look where it is.

I believe there were other larger issues that doomed the great SWC, but this is a very valid point. I hope the Big 12 waits a few years before deciding to expand...allowing us to push forward on the facility improvements and work on building the football program, continuing the basketball momentum, and using those two to boost the rest of our programs into a position where our product does the advertising for us. With the improvements in facilities and overall athletics that we expect to see in the next 4 years, and with HCCM and LB potentially as the figureheads of our PR campaign that emphasizes the importance of having the Dallas market as a home to counter the growth of the SEC, I think we could do it. It requires a lat of moving parts to work perfectly, but I think the chance is real.

History repeats itself. In the long run, I think adding SMU and Houston is in the best interest of the longevity of the Big12 instead of Memphis and Cincy. I understand tv markets and how they control realignment and adding SMU and Houston doesn't make a splash, but I would think it is easier for other conference members to take teams with strong history in the SWC vs mediocre state schools that don't tie into the Big 12 brand. I personally think the Big 12 will disband with OU, OSU, Texas, and Tech going to the PAC 12 in the next few years.
