Re: CongratsSeriously...if OSU beats 'bama then I will start to believe. Wisconsin laid a golden egg by not getting off the bus. Once their 3rd stringer gets a few hits in him, think OSU might come back down from their current lofty position.
Re: Congratsbig 10 is crap. Bama is going to annihilate OSU, no doubt about it. Only thing OSU's huge win over wisconsin proved was how bad the big 10 is.
Re: CongratsTCU stomped pretty much everyone they played with their only loss coming to a top 5 team on the road on a FG with :01 remaining?
Re: Congratswould be nice to have a flexible playoff system. some years, there are 2 clear cut best teams. this year there are 6 one loss teams who all have a legitimate argument. if you went with 8 teams this year, i think it would be entirely unfair to give mississippi state and michigan state a chance to play for the championship.
Re: CongratsYou're a class act, ReedFrawg. TCU deserved a chance to compete for the national championship. Would love for this to be the impetus for an SMU invite to the Bix XII, but won't hold my breath.
Re: Congratsit would be pretty hard for them to pick us right now if we are honest about it. Everyone has high hopes for Chad, but nothing has happened yet of course.
We are about two years early for this conversation. My guess is the playoff goes to 8 and get relief that way.

Re: CongratsFor what its worth Sagarin had them:
1. BAMA 2. TCU 3. Oregon 4. Ole Miss 5. Ohio St. 6. Mississippi St 7. Baylor http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/sagarin/ "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: Congratssmu2007, i don't watch any tcu football, but did happen to catch the end of the wvu-tcu game, and they didn't blow them out, in fact, wvu threw the game away.
also thought i recalled kansas taking them to the wire. they've had close calls and from what i can tell did not pretty much blow everyone out that they played, and these two come to mind. seeing their record, wasn't the OU game close too? also, i don't see how baylor or tcu would be favored over fsu or ohio state. fsu has had a lot of close calls but they have a QB that has an ability to win close games. fsu is not the team of last year but hard to see how they are the underdogs. either way, oregon and alabama are a level or two above everyone else and should play each other to decide the champion.
Re: CongratsTCU in my mind had one of the most unexpectantly impressive seasons in recent history. They did blow most all their opponents off the field. Auburn did a few years ago but that really had more to do with a plague of injuries the prior year

Re: CongratsHonestly, I feel terrible for both Baylor and TCU. Both private schools took down OU and Texas. Any team that does that has my approval. Plus, the B1G is an absolute joke this year. Ohio State beating Wisconsin doesn't impress me, it just shows me how terrible the football talent in the Midwest is compared to the areas where Meyer gets his recruits. Bama will destroy Ohio State!
Re: Congrats
Close games at Kansas, at WVU and OU (they were still playing for a national title, conf title, were still in the top 5, and before injuries - they weren't the same team that lost to Baylor later on) Blowouts - 3 OOC games, 55 pt win vs Tech, 33 pt win vs Okie Lite, 38 pt win at UT, 52 pt win vs ISU, 21 pt win vs KSU. I would say 8 of 12 games were blowouts. And my point about Baylor and TCU being favored against OSU and FSU is from the experts in Vegas (just clarifying that it wasn't my opinion).
Re: CongratsI feel for BU and TCU. They shouldn't have been penalized for lack of a playoff. The National Championship has been joke since they started basing it off bowl games (and it was a joke before that as well). The current system did all it could to ensure controversy and discontent. TCU belongs there and did so the entire year. Looks like ratings played the biggest reason for this choice.
Re: CongratsFor the life of me, I could never find myself to root for Baylor...I shame-rooted for TCU while at SMU as they were QB'd by a friend and HS teammate Steve Stamp (and watched in horror at ACS as his career ended on an interception against UH). While I took no great joy in the success of the two schools, it is a dark and ominous thing that neither were included in the playoff. I would have expected no better for SMU had we been in your position...and I wish we had been in your position.
There will be wringing of hands and explanations that will be lacking, but no substantive means to keep this from happening again. And people will forget TCU and Baylor the minute the kickoff starts for Oregon-FSU and Alabama-Ohio State. Is anyone really surprised the decision was based on $$ and not on the stated criteria "the four best teams"? Again, thanks RF for the kind words. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
