That would make my life so much easier. Houston, Leach, and Kiffin in one spot. I could consolidate my hate.

The Leach stuff sounds silly. Not sure UH president would go for that.
1. At $2.75MM, Leach makes a lot more $$ at WSU than the UH Coogs have ever dreamed of paying. 2. He's a trainwreck. A fun one but still a wreck. Probably worse than Jugular John Jenkins. 3. Always has wandering eyes (like JJ). Rumored to be headed to NCSU a couple years ago. Flirted with U-Dub out of Lubbock.
The flip side is that he's fun and wins. Apparently he has a relatively strong class at Wazzu coming in and something to build on. Maybe can ultimately build a Mike Riley type of program in Pullman, but he's not consistent enough to stick it out.
Herman would be about equal to Chad Morris, but with HCCM's HC experience, I'd give him the edge. Meacham is a bit riskier than Herman but would come a bit cheaper at first and seems solid. Does he leave for OK State as soon as that gig opens? Maybe so but can't make your hire based upon what might happen if your HC is successful. Like HCCM to Aggyland.

That isn't too much for a P5 school these days. There are only 6 P5 coaches that make less than $2 million a year.

We got lucky with Morris because he REALLY wanted to get back to Texas. Herman has coached in Texas but was born in Ohio so there is no real urge to go to a Texas team particularly. Herman's stock is so high right now I bet he just waits for a P5 offer to his liking. He has a shot at the Championship this year, and with their QB situation and young team the Buckeyes are likely to be right back in the playoff again next year. Again, raising his stock even higher.
Would be shocked if he went to Houston. His first job will be P5.

Very tough to make those programs come around - so 2.5 M in a new 5 year contract in a job he can excel in is a better bet then 2.75 in a job where he probably already knows we will be fired in a year.
Because Texas has no state income tax, he could have a smaller salary and still make more money. This has become an issue with professional athletes living or working in California. They can make far less money in Texas and still have a pay raise. The Rockets Howard took a $30 million contract cut and still ended up with roughly $ 3 mi more. Most recently Kung Fu Panda signed with the Red Sox for roughly the same money offered by the SF Giants and end up taking home an additional 9 million over 3 years by getting out of California. Leach could accept less money and come out financially ahead.

Haha...when Massachusetts offers you lower taxes, that might be a sign you live in a [deleted] state! California maxes out at over 12%. Nice! Bet that goes up in the near future.

Actually, all athletes and coaches pay income tax in any state that they "work" in. I have to do this as well in my line of work. A number of years ago this was instituted because states wanted to grab as much possible inome as they can. In past years, I gad worked in as many as five different states, meaning that I file in each state that took out income taxes. This requires a really good accountant. Go Ponies!
