Speacial Teams Anyone?

Postby JoeMustang » Mon Dec 08, 2014 12:43 pm

Have heard no mention of who will be the next ST coach...actually no mention of ST at all. Any guesses as to who might coach it or if it will just be taken care of internally by defensive coaches?

Many, not all, universities simply divide the duties among their staff. Each position coach that is not a coordinator will be responsible for one of the ST units. Not sure if that's Chad's plan, but that's what often happens due to the restrictions on the number of coaches.

Well, so far we have 8 assistants, so there's room for one more who is hopefully a special teams guys in way, shape or form.

HC - Chad Morris
OC/QB - Joe Craddock
RB - Claude Mathis
WR - Justin Stepp
OL - Dustin Fry
DC - Val Malone
DL - Archie McDaniel
LB - Bill Young

Thought it was going to be Young at DL and McDaniel at LB? Guessing ST responsibilities may just be divided up...but thinking having a true ST coach couldn't hurt us at this point.

My vote would be which ever works the best. I think Special Teams is very, very important. I don't understand it when teams act as though it is an afterthought. Drives me nuts.

I thought so originally as well, but after looking back at some reports on rivals, I think it's this way. McDaniel coached D line at New Mexico as well. They're both on the D staff one way or another.

For what it's worth, Young has denied that is joining the staff, and claims he has never even spoken with Chad Morris.

Word is that special teams has been filled, but like the other positions, nothing official.

It was reported today that he is indeed in.

It actually is possible that Young was the choice of our Defensive Coordinator for the defensive staff and may well not have previously met Morris before.

So no one individual is responsible but rather it is a shared effort? Great...
