HCCM Honoring all commitments

Postby mavsrage311 » Mon Dec 08, 2014 4:34 pm

In a recent (free) Rivals article, recruit Cristian Williams said "First we were kind of worried if our commitments were going to be honored but coach Morris said all our commitments would be honored. I texted the group and everyone was happy."

First I've seen that, I assumed that a few would be cut loose, and looks like Kearns was. My take at first glance - Kearns didn't fit his offense, and is from California. Looks like all the Texas kids, whether they fit or not, whether they can play or not, are getting their commitments honored by HCCM. He does not want to [deleted] off any Texas High school coaches. I'm completely okay with this.

But can he discourage some anyway? They are dead weight. We need to free up as much room as possible.

All we need is a good QB in order to compete in the AAC. If we have to honor a few scholarships it won't mean anything in the grand scheme of things as long as we get a good QB. I have full confidence in CM that he will get a good QB.

And a good OL. And a good defense. And a decent ST.

I'm really concerned about our defense. It was bad this year and our best interior lineman and linebacker are gone.

It's not a fun topic. You love to have kids that are excited about joining SMU, and you know several (if not all) have really been concerned about this. I know many fans are hoping that HCCM gets this turned around quickly and that that means getting the right players in place ASAP.

A Tech buddy of mine put the topic in good perspective for me today (since they just went through it, too). It's tough to sign 25 kids in this first class without some hold-overs. Some may be a fit for the system and turn out to contribute. Others (most?) won't. You do the best you can on this partial class.

Looks like we're going to have to wait until Feb 2016 to sign our breakthrough class. Thanks again June.

Dude we will still have 14 spots to fill & most of the quality players are taken at this point.

Of the 11 we're honoring, HCCM has to be sold on a least a couple. Leaving only a handful we wouldn't want, but they really want to be at SMU with Texas HS ties.

Seems like an easy call to keep them.

Dude, we needed all of those spots. In case you haven't noticed we're one of the worst teams in the country (thanks to DITR recruiting). There are plenty of quality players left (both committed and uncommitted). With only 14 left it'll be virtually impossible to pull this class out of the crapper.

I guess we shall see if HCCM can fill all 14 spots with high quality players.

So far I see a mix of legit players and then similar players that we have now with no offers.

Not a knock against HCCM, just limited time and availability.
