Re: Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?Is there anyway SMU pulls some magic and gets us into the Big12?
Re: Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?
Nope, let that dream die.
Re: Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?
Zero chance, but it's not because we wouldn't be a good conference mate, it's we add zero additional TV sets. Our slam dunk best bet will be a ACC conference network that wants Dallas (see Rutgers). http://www.newsobserver.com/2014/07/20/4018408/decock-acc-tv-network-makes-sense.html Pony up!
Re: Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?I think the B12 has agreed to no more Texas teams...and even if they did take 1 , it would be pressured to take UH.
The crappy part is if schools like Memphis, Tulane somehow get into the B12. I can see BYU, Cincy, even the florida schools...but Tulane? Our fellow AAC schools threw a fit when Tulane was invited to our little league!
Re: Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?
Tulane's best chance at getting into a P5 conference is to dig up the paperwork from when they left the SEC and hope they can find some crucial typo or a page missing a signature.
Re: Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?
Yes, it is dying a slow painful death...
Re: Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?We need to look at the other conferences for future OOC and dump the big 12 stock along with our hopes. They are doomed as a conference anyways, so why would we want to go in where we are not wanted and why not explore other options?
Re: Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?We should play the Big 12 teams as much as possible with a focus on beating them. That is what will make people care about us and make SMU relevant again.
No one in Texas gives any more of a [deleted] if we beat Washington State, Duke, or Purdue than UTEP or Tulane. Convince yourselves all you want that we need to do all sorts of things...until we win and draw consistent crowds it's like 3 part-timers at Wal-Mart arguing over what they need to do to get voted onto the company's board of directors.....they might have some ideas, but come on, who cares, it's pointless. Skins on the wall matter....let's get some of those and then put our bigger plans to work.
Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?
We have been doing that for 30 years and look where we are. The Big 12 does not want us. We get no benefit from playing them. Build our own fanbase and stop focusing on what the other team will bring. We are in rebuilding mode, let's change everything we do. Otherwise, we are the definition of insane. We play 0 big 12 schools in basketball, and our fans come to watch our team play. Do the same in Football. And you are wrong, people will care if we beat them because they are Power 5 teams.

Re: Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?skins on the wall matter unless you're rutgers, maryland, tulane, or utah. but in theory, it should help.
Re: Memphis, Cincy to Big 12?
You missed a key phrase here, floridianstang. Playing them does us no good because we have continuously soiled ourselves when we line up to play them. Playing relevant teams isn't enough; you have to beat them or at least make them competitive games. I like the idea of bringing in P5 teams from other conferences, but we can't get our asses handed to us every time we play them. That's how you attract fans that might show up more than once. GO MUSTANGS!!!!
