Starting Lb's 2006Only returning starter is Wilton McCray (who has not done much this year). Reggie Carrington seems to be the fit for middle linebacker, but who will replace Alvin? We lost Avery Cleveland, and now we recently lost 3-star freshman Curtiss Powell... I hope Bennett can get a nasty Juco linebacker if not we are in trouble.
recently talked to a player on the team...defense is gonna be trouble next year. the only bright side of our defense is our front 4 who are comin back, talks of don MAYBE MAYBE comin back next year. LB is gonna be weak, secondary is also gonna be very exposed next year. possibly the most shocking bit i heard was that justin willis will most likely be on the field next year. claimed him to be amazing. sucks for phillips tho. overall defense could be a lot worse next year, but our offense should definately look the best in the past few years.
gee we haven't seen "amazing in practice" since the amazing freshman year of Justin Boren or perhaps the amazing performance of our QBs in 7 on 7 drills not to be confused with the amazing performance of the amazing Bamba Falls in pick up games at Dedman. Its been so long since we had an amazing QB that I fear I have forgotten what one looks like. That being said I am not drawing any conclusion on Willis positive or negative this year except that he shouldn't be considered for use this late in the season. As for defense-BIG TROUBLE although I agree the defensive line is not so bad although we could use better players and depth at everyone of those positions. Right now Haywood is causing more havoc than just about anyone we have had a DLM since the DP. He's still got some improvement to make but he spends a fair amount of the time disrupting the other teams offense.
That's true -- absolutely no way he should play this year. You couldn't be more right. Except that Bamba's last name is FALL -- singular. No "S."
wow, didn't see that coming
Stansbury is done. I talked to him after the ECU "game". He has already had surgery and is working on rehab. He said no more football at SMU for him but he wanted to try to continue playing, and on a ositive notre he has one class in the spring and will graduate, always a good thing.
I had not heard anything about Powell, either. I would be curious to hear any information that people have.
We are really weak at LB next year, but part of the reason for this is Cox leaving in the Spring. I highly suspect that we will grab two JUCO LBs this year, along with a HS recruit.
Hope Todd Alexander is as good as advertised.
Actually, I hope he's better than advertised. Is this going to be a situation in which we'll have to try moving someone from another position? If so .... who? As odd as it sounds, I'd like to see Joe Sturdivant -- who has played very well this year -- and Wilton McCray switch positions. McCray is very fast, but very small for a LB. And Sturdivant is what .... 215 now? He's not going to run with the really fast WRs, so why not get him pumped up and play him at LB, and drop McCray back to SS -- his HS position -- where he wouldn't be so undersized, and could put his speed to work?
