But the biggest reason was Coach Morris and his offense.

"That’s what I did at high school, the offense that we ran at high school and the offense that coach Morris runs is a perfect fit,” said Hicks, “I watched coach Morris at Clemson and what he did at Lake Travis, you know I just thought it was the perfect fit, family wise, just everything I thought it was the perfect fit.”

The newest SMU commit admitted the personable nature of Chad Morris and his staff also played a big role in his decision to choose the Mustangs.

“He was very persistent about telling me how much he wanted me but he didn’t do it in an annoying way, or a cocky way,” said Hicks, “What he really said to me that made me feel wanted was how badly they wanted to coach me and get to know me better and just how they handled recruiting me these last couple weeks.”

Morris sold Hicks on being able to compete right away for the starting job, but the Elite 11 runner-up said it's on him.

“He thinks I can come and do what I need to do and hopefully take over the starting job, but at the college level they can say that all they want," Hicks said. "At the end of the day, I’m going to have to go to Dallas and win the job myself. It’s what you do when you get your opportunity.”

wildcard-Severt just might make a good TE if he can't win the job and wants to stay. There are plenty high school QBs that turn out to be great TEs.
