http://www.si.com/college-basketball/2014/12/22/jean-micheal-mudiay-emmanuel-mudiay-smu-mustangs?xid=nl_siextraTrying to wish the best for JMM (especially at Christmas), but it's hard to feel bad when his brother/family chose to take the $$ in China. Between his contract over there and the Under Armour $$, I'm guessing the family could afford to come home for Christmas. Plus I thought E-man was injured right now. Is he back? As the article points out, it's not JMM's fault he's separated from his family, but between the free education he's getting and the $$ Emmanuel is making in China, it's hard to feel sorry for him. I'm guessing the coaching staff and local teammates will make him feel right at home on Christmas Eve.

It's tough. I wish the best for him and his brother, although I feel attending SMU would have helped Emmanuel in the long run.

Eman being in china helps nobody. He will be a high pick even if he doesn't play any more this year. However, getting a mil to drag your family to shithole china for a year doesn't do anybody much good. I will just assume that he was an ncaa timebomb. In 5 years, ncaa kids like him will get a mil to stay ncaa.
Bottom line, he'll lose more than 1mil in nba salary over 3 years by guangdonging it up.

Jean-Michael was my son's coach at the SMU basketball camp this past summer. My son was 6 at the time and had never played basketball. When my wife told me she had signed him up for the camp, I was a little worried that he would be lost out there and in over his head. Jean-Michael took good care of my boy though, and was a great coach for the entire camp. My son loved him. As anyone with kids will know, that means far more to me than anything Jean-Michael or his brother will ever do on the court. I wish both Mudiays the very best. . . Especially Jean-Michael. I know he will do well in life.

He was a walking, talking NCAA investigation waiting to go down. They were already circling during the summer.

The ncaa has no real power anymore and it's getting less by the day. Only way they get you is if you basically ask for it. Unc has a what amounts to a fake school for athletes for crikes sake. I will be glad when we make the tournament.

Nothing like SMU making waves in revenue sports again to give the NCAA enforcement arm its swagger back.

the Emmanuel fiasco is in no way JMM's fault. I believe he has handled this situation very well. And he will graduate with an SMU degree. I'm glad he stayed with the team. It sounds like the guys wanted him around as well.

That is awesome. Can't get a better endorsement than that.
