Is O.J. still committed to SMU? He's from where I grew up.

Read your own article. It says he is a New Mexico State commit.

Aren't we all. Although the kid seemed to be a nice high school player, it appears Morris and staff are looking for much bigger receivers these days.

In some ways this thread about Clark is more interesting than the original comments when he committed which were mostly of the "too small," and "typical JJ recruit" variety although some seem to have recognized that he was an unusual athlete. I was not aware that he had opted for another college or that he had been named MVP of a Wichita Falls area all star team. I certainly applaud the new staff going after bigger receivers but some small players have had big motors.

I got to thinking about small players who were successful in college and sometimes the pros. Davey O'Brien, Eddy Le Baron, Buddy Young, and Tommy McDonald come to mind although Le Baron and Young weighed more and McDonald was taller. I remember well Jimmy Thomas (think that name is right) from Newnan, GA who played well at GA Tech. He was about the same size as Clark is said to be and was in some of those games with SMU that were decided by a point or two. On Ponyfans one frequent poster reminds us often of Inez Perez. And some one help me. Was Johnny Champion one of the smaller players on the field against ND in 1949?

I wish Clark well at NMSU. I am going to try to remember to check on him the next few years. I'm not saying he should have been encouraged to stay on the Hilltop although evidently Coach Morris said commitments would be honored. I wonder who other posters remember as good though small?

If you go 'way back, John Paul Jones at Waco High was not very big.
