Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football TeamWere we this goofy when we won our first Hawaii bowl? Gosh I hope not. I' m kind of embarrassed for them. Hoping for some more wise, sage advice after they win the tiddly wink bowl next year.
Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football TeamWin a Rose Bowl or a Fiesta Bowl and we'll start pondering you roadmap. Otherwise we'll just look 40 mi away
Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football Team
I actually think it's just the opposite, far too often we don't give ourselves enough credit.

That is most certainly not true. Last edited by SMU2007 on Sat Dec 27, 2014 1:19 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football Teamyour "pipelines" are Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, Florida, and MS? That is laughable. Memphis is without a doubt an afterthought in all of those states (ok maybe slightly less of an afterthought in Tennessee)
Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football Team
Looking at their roster, it's probably an accurate statement. He didn't say they were beating a lot of sec teams for recruits out of those states. Recruiting kids who were almost good enough for the sec is probably good enough to be close or in the sec if you're a smart recruiter
Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football Team
They can really step it up with UAB out of the way ![]()
Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football TeamI have to agree with SMUer. It was a nice sentiment, but Memphis isn't that special. They beat BYU in a bowl game no one cares about. The only reason it was a big story was the fight. I remember in 2011 Zach Line & the goon squad ran over Memphis 48-0 and then we beat our ranked rival (a team's roadmap we actually should follow) in Fort Worth the next game. We are a nice private school with good academics in a thriving city. Sure, this might be arrogant, but we do not need your advice.
Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football TeamFuente is a really good coach. I think he's at Memphis one more year and then he bolts for a P5 job. Hopefully for Memphis he's built the program up enough that it can sustain itself when he leaves.
Memphis should be an example of how quickly it can be done. Back in 2011 I don't think I'd ever seen a team as totally inept as the one we played in Memphis. That was honestly one of if not the worst college football team outside of 2014 SMU that I've ever seen. Not only that, in the first half of the 2013 Memphis game we were up like 28 or 31 to nothing before you could blink. JJ's stupid R&S offense allowed them back into the game but we managed to hang on for the win. Also, the crowds for those games make some of our crowds look downright miraculous. Kudos to Memphis. I hope we can mirror and then surpass their success. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football TeamIf SMU is an afterthought then why are you talking trash on our message boards???

![]() Pony up!
Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football TeamI'd rather be jealous of Rice, matching our Hawaii Bowl trip but with far more impediments than SMU or Memphis

Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football Team
That's whatcha get when June Jones is your coach.
Re: The Memphis Blueprint-Building a College Football TeamNot sure i would use the term Beale Street beat down given the beat downs that normally occur there. Is 2015 the year your university breaks into the top 300?
