Hey Well I was reading the past post and I came across this post-
Want to solve the attendance problem? Check this out. Go to any high school game, football or basketball .... who are the most loyal fans there? The band and the cheerleaders. So, set up a deal where SMU invites high school cheerleaders and bands to perform -- large groups, combining from several schools. This will sell, because it's their chance to perform on a college field, etc. Let the students in free, make their parents buy tickets -- and they will. Then bring the same groupd back repeatedly, maybe once a year or twice a year, and bingo, you're building SMU fans. As they become more familiar with the Ponies, they will want to come back, either to perform again, to see the team or to see their HS friends perform. Hell, they might even want to come to SMU as students, and already feel a sense of school spirit. And as they get older, they'll start buying tickets. Get the area kids involved for free, hit their families and friends for ticket$ and the fan base grows. Just make sure it's not a one-time deal.

Well someone should really submit this to the athletic department serouisly! and I already know one band that would come! LHS of Longview! Go Lobos!

I've heard similar ideas before, and I think it's a great idea. The bands will come, for the opportunity to perform at a college game, and if all the bandmembers' families come to watch, you'll start building future PonyFans.
Great idea!

SMU used to do this exact thing at the Cotton Bowl... prior to the move to Texas Stadium. The high school bands would be on the field for pre-game and march in with a good introduction. There were two for each home game. One would make a "U" and the other would make and "A" and the Mustang Band would be the "S" in USA. They'd play the national anthem, then one band would be the Diamond S and one would make the Diamond U and the Mustang Band would make the Diamond M and they'd play "Varsity". Then the bands would stay for the whole game. I think some drill teams helped out, too. Good for some DISD schools like Bryan Adams, Carter, Kimball and for the suburban schools, too. Some DISD bands don't have enough in the band to make a capital "I" (like ND and Sunset) so you might get to invite more.
