This Ain't FIBA

Postby RyanSMU98 » Mon Dec 29, 2014 10:33 pm

Look, I like a lot of things about Yanick's game this season (tonight notwithstanding, but they all played like crap) and I do think his experience in the FIBA Championship helped him in a lot of ways but every time he touches a ball on the rim I want to throw something! He needs to get that crap out of his head. Yes it is minor in the overall scheme of things but it just bugs me.

Is goaltending allowed in FIBA? Never paid that much attention

No, but grabbing the ball off the rim is (which seems to have been several of the GT tonight and in some other games this year).

At least we have some one playing around the rim..the original shots in the paint should have been finished is the issue I had. Finish when you are in the paint is what bothers me, then YM wouldn't have to touch those misses.

Why does Yanick continue to spin baseline where he ends up under the hoop or about to step out of bounds? Besides his inability to dunk the damn ball, this is the most frustrating part of his game to me.

I understand he's a "running big", but he REALLY needed to put on about 10 pounds of muscle or so and the associated strength to go with it. It looks like he might have gotten a little bit bigger but unless/until he does so, he is not NBA material and is really selling himself short with what he could do in his last season here and beyond.

(caveat: this is the perspective and opinion of a 5'10" guy who is very envious of tall guys and thinks he could have been all world with about 6 more inches . . . . and yes that is indeed WSS).

Honestly, putting on 10lbs of muscle is never really the issue w/hoops players. Plenty of wiry strong kids that are slight and board w/the big boys and defend. He's a skilled kid, probably moreso than we've seen at SMU and he'll be rich not matter what

As for goaltending, America should go w/international rules
