Straight from my *ss. Pick whatever number you want but the facts remain. Last year Boykin was mediocre at best with basically the same teammates. This year he either magically transformed HIMSELF into a heisman contender, OR the new coaches and scheme transformed his game?

So you're expecting our new coaches to magically transform Davis into a Heisman contender with basically the same teammates? You do realize that a QB getting new coaches and new schemes doesn't guarantee any success at all for that QB.

Quite a leap you made from me talking about Boykin, to me 'expecting' our coaches to transform Davis into a Heisman contender.
I definitely agree with footballdad that the potential is certainly there. I think Davis could thrive in a hurry up, quick hit passing, and lots of bootleg stuff/read stuff. The question I have is does he have the read IQ to thrive. Put in the "3 second rule" -- either the ball has to be out of your hands in 3 seconds or you run. (4 tops for a few deep shots per game). Also takes pressure off a sub par OL.
I think that's what HCCM does in the first year. Very fast, quick reads, throw it in 2-3 seconds. Think about it - if your fastest receiver runs a 4.5 40 (not sure who our fastest guy is and how fast he is) - he can get 20 yards down field in 3 seconds easy even if pressured on the line and taking into account the time it takes the ball to get there through the air.

That alone should win us 2-3 games in the AAC even if our defense is ranked in the 100-120 range which I think it will be.
He's been a big play long ball throwing QB since he was in high school. The offense simply utilized his throwing ability much better. He wasn't near as bad as some have suggested in his first 2 years at TCU considering his lack of experience. Close to a 60% thrower with a high yards per completion average even in his first 2 years although he had an accuracy issue and he was undisciplined with the ball running and throw. He was damn sure better than any freshman June Jones recruited

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
I'm not 'guaranteeing' anything with Davis, or expecting any type of miracles. His arm is actually a huge concern.
On the other hand, I am 100% expecting Morris and his scheme to give Davis a fighting chance, which he didn't have at all in Jones scheme. If we don't land another QB recruit I don't think it's any epiphany to expect Davis to be our starting QB next year, even if his arm is mediocre at best. Toughest question for Morris is, can he base his offense around a 'running' Matt Davis with the lack of depth and increased chance for injury? He experienced this problem first hand this year when Clemson's future freshman QB star went down with injury.
If Hicks comes in and blows everyone away with his arm and accuracy and ability to absorb the playbook quickly then give him a shot. Morris will figure it out quickly and the offense will be a breathe of fresh air for everyone either way.
Watch the first 10 perfectly placed bombs from Boykins high school highlites at the link-it looks exactly like the TCU offense this year throwing deep numerous times a game. TCU had Boykin in the wrong offense all along although I can't really blame them because of his running ability. I watched him at least twice in high school and the kid always had a big arm. Some kids have knack for throwing the long ball-Boykin has always had that ability. The new coaches figured out what he does best

Running Davis over and over into a wall of defenders geared to stop the run because they don't respect the pass is just going to get the guy hurt. Davis is going to have to become a much better passer to be of any real use to Morris.
