SMU Drops Road Match At Temple, 77-64
Freshman Alicia Froling Records Season-Best 20 Points

Dec. 30, 2014

PHILADELPHIA (SMU) – Freshman Alicia Froling scored a season-best 20 points but SMU could not overcome a strong start by Temple, with the Mustangs losing 77-64 in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

SMU (4-9, 0-2 The American) got 20 points and seven rebounds from Alicia Froling, who made 6-of-8 field goals and 8-of-10 free throws. The 20 points were also the most by any SMU player this season.

The Mustangs outscored the Owls 37-33 in the second half, but a 17-point halftime deficit proved too steep to overcome for SMU. Temple (6-8, 2-0) opened the game with nine straight points in the first four minutes. After the first media timeout, SMU got five straight points from Alicia Froling to cut the Owls’ lead to four. Temple answered with a 15-2 run and its lead would only dip below double-digits once the rest of the game.

SMU cut Temple’s lead to nine, 62-53, with 5:57 to go after Alicia Froling hit a layup off an assist from Destynee Hives-McCray. The Owls responded with five consecutive points to put the game out of reach for the Mustangs.

Hives-McCray and Kiara Perry each added 13 points for the Mustangs, who will return home for their first home conference game of the season against Houston at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday. Hives-McCray also grabbed seven rebounds while Perry recorded a career-best six assists.

Game Notes
