Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?I was talking with a UT friend of mine ( who is extremely wired in) about the UT loss to Arkansas. He and I agreed that it looked a lot like the arse whipping they took from Miami in the '92 ( I think that was the year) Cotton Bowl. Many UT fans and administrators took that loss as a wake up call that the SWC wasn't preparing the team to play against National Powers and UT needed to stop playing perennial weak teams like Rice, TCU, SMU.
My friend and I concluded that - while UT certainly can't talk smack against BU / TCU ect - that UT sees the Big XII as SWC 2.0. Without A&M and Nebraska the league has lost its luster and the national profile to bring great teams to Austin. I think OU thinks the same thing about their situation. UT chased the money with the LHN and the Big XII but they see now that they're not getting better nor are their fans excited about the games. The Big XII is a nice regional conference with out the national profile of an SEC,PAC 12 or Big 10. So look for UT to Work out a deal with ESPN to shelve LHN and move to the PAC 12 and for OU to move to the SEC. I think they would keep the UT/OU game on the schedule. These moves would raise their profile and bring great games to their stadiums. Plus ESPN would love it. The Big XII will back fill with SMU and UH . I could see this move happening within the next 2-3 years. I understand that the BIG XII GOR aren't as iron clad commitments as people think. We also concluded that UT wouldn't need to bring along TTU to the PAC 12 as A&M was able to break free without bringing baggage with them. OU and OSU not sure about that dynamic but I can't see OU staying in the Big XII if UT leaves - even if it means abandoning OSU. Pony 81
Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football? All those Pac 12 teams have separate distinct cable network pods in the different states anyway. There is a Wash/WSU pod, Ariz/Ariz St. pod, Oregon/OSU pod-its not going to be that big a problem to find a reasonable solution if that becomes necessary. But despite what some think-the Pac 12 will jump once Texas says yes and that has always been the case. LHN is a boggy-man excuse that has been used by a lot of schools to do what they wanted to do anyway. A&M to SEC, Nebraska to Big 10 and Missouri to the first to offer.

Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?
Wow. We got fat, happy and lazy to the point we can no longer compete with Baylor and TCU, so let's blame Baylor & TCU and the rest of our conference for not PREPARING US to compete against national powers. WTF? If this is the their real thought process no wonder they just got beat down. Just another reason I think I'll be rooting for Oregon to win this whole thing to further upset the old school power structure.
Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?Ridiculous to say big 12 is the worst. ACC and big 10 are crap. Big 12 is no worse than middle of the pack and usually arguments can be made for them vs PAC
Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?Interesting Arkansas who finished 6-6 is now ranked No. 11 in the Country by Sagarin. That surely has never come close to happening before

Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football? They were about 10 points away from 11-1

Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?I think number 11 is a little insane but they did have some impressive "almost wins" including at tuscaloosa
Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?Should have said 10-2. Auburn and Georgia were solid losses. A&M, Ala, MissSt, and Missouri were all there for the taking. Other than Missouri they had not learned how to win yet. Once they beat LSU they became a different team. Lots of shoulda coulda but they have put together a good team and really did not look like a bowl contender until next year. So they are a year ahead of schedule.

Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?
They did hang with most of their opponents this season. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?TCU did their part to show they were a quality team, but the Big XII really needs Baylor and KSU to show well so they can at least say their top teams could compete with anyone. TCU impressed me as a team that actually followed the "coach speak" and improved as the season progressed
Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?
The problem with that scenario is the lack of choices the PAC-12 has due to location as I believe their ultimate goal is to get to 16 teams. What I could see is UT, Tech, OU & OK St all moving to the PAC-12 South & USC & UCLA moving to the PAC-12 North (Mountain / Central vs Pacific time zones). Can't say it's that big an improvement within their PAC South division, but it certainly is an improvement between conferences.
Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football?
This concept is getting wider and wider distribution. Question is whether they would devise another P5 conference, or just trash the idea and go to a P4 system. Splits the money less ways and gets rid of the Iowa States of the world without having to actually shitcan them directly.
Re: Is the B12 the worst P5 conference in football? There may be additional movement but I think its very unlikely that anyone already "in" will be kicked out.
