Glass half full or half empty

Postby tmustangp » Sun Oct 23, 2005 2:06 am

So today while i was watching the game on cstv (greatness by the way.. i have not missed a game all year thanks to cstv) and I had to ask my buddies this question..

When your a team that is in a lot of games but still loses them, is the outlook of the team - glass half full or half empty?

i ask this b/c luckily in my life i have always been on winning teams (i am from highland park).. my friends response was that if your team is young .. ie=smu, the glass should be half full because you realize that you are this close to being a much better team and you just have to capitalize on your chances that you are given.

I really believe that is true w/ this team.. we are still young and we are playing very good football for three quarters every game and unfortunately in the 4th quarter we peter out physically/mentally.. but that can be fixed w/ more recruiting classes like the last two years and a good offseason..

and with martin getting better in the offseason and having a playmaker and good decision maker like willis in the backfield .. we can and will get better.. so the my glass of milk/beer is half full

we have about 3-4 players that other teams wanted in the freshman class. SMU has had youth for 16 years. How many months have you been an SMU fan. What possible basis can you claim that there are a significant number of difference makers in the freshman class. Another genuis counting walkons to prove how young we are. You win with quality recruits not bodies.

Not to mention we will lose seven starters and key backups on defense THIS year. All four of the DT's in the rotation will be seniors next year, as well as DE Justin Rogers. Our leading tackler, saftey Joe Sturdivant will be a senior next year as well. There is tons of experience on this team.

Exactly this is NOT a young team and in fact plays very few freshmen and the ones that do, play very few minutes.

stallion i am so sick of your crap.. everytime someone says something you come back w/ some smartalick response "another genius" seriously are you an adult or a 5 grader who has serious self confidence issues..

to answer your question considering that fact that I was on the team 5 years ago and have grown up an smu fan .. I will do the math for you

24 years x's 12 months = 288 months...

to help you a little bit more on who i am...i am the guy who asked you to do a radio w/ me and now I am glad you said no cause I sure as hell will never ask you join us...

I would turn down another mans offer to perform a radio with him as well.

I don't post often, but I try to shed some honest, insightful light on the current state of football on our beloved Hilltop when something I see can be addressed.

After expiring my eligibility and earning my degree, I have spent the past couple years working for and around some very successful businessmen, and if I'm doing a case study on parallels on effective leadership, management, product identity, etc. I may have to avoid SMU.

I don't have the time and haven't done enough research or spend enough time around the program to be overly critical or suggestive, but I have recently asked some people alot closer to the program some questions.

* It is truly disheartening to see such a lack of development of the talent we do have. These kids may not be bluechips but they do things well, so why is there such a miscalculation at what each player does best and maximize his potential. Get the same out of your starting qb as you do the no-chance walk-on always getting in the way at practice.
* There seems to be an alarming reoccuring theme of a pure failure to motivate. I'm not talking about pregame speeches either. What constructive practices are in place Sunday watching film through Friday?
* Find a successful system, not limited to play calling, and execute it perfectly and efficiently so that it becomes second nature and easy. If the same habitual problems occur, something is wrong with the system.

I could go on and on aimlessly about the problems but it would do nothing. Until it feels like the football program is starting to at least master these fundamentals, nothing will change. A random, and great, upset of a TCU or UAB will make everyone happy and show the potential is there to be competitive, but where is it every week?

TmustangP, stop getting personal on ponyfans.com. Today doesn't suck. That's why
