Thanks for the info. Very cool to see this kind of tangible evidence that it is a new day on the Hilltop.
Re: The NTFCA is also going back to SMU this yearVery good news, and yet another absolutely shocking indictment of the previous regime.
So glad it is a new day on The Hilltop. Shake It Off Moody
Re: The NTFCA is also going back to SMU this year
You are being far more diplomatic than how I was going to respond. As recently as 3 years ago, some of the tiki diehards repeatedly said it didn't matter where the recruits came from. Then 1-man show Klemm left for the west coast and with him their flimsy argument. Those tiki followers were, and IMO still are, idiots.
Re: The NTFCA is also going back to SMU this year
First, let me start off by saying that if SMU did indeed turn down the chance to host this type of event, that is awful. I've never heard that before, but that seems pretty bad. Just a couple of points to make this all a little more level headed: 1) It was a two man show, don't forget about JR, who brought in decent recruits before Klemm arrived. 2) Cavan, Bennett, Jones - none of them were Texas HS coaches. So, it wasn't like we went to Tiki in a departure from typical SMU strategy. It was in line with it. And the other serious candidate that year, PJ, wasn't from Texas either. 3) The one candidate with Texas ties that was talked about that year would have done just as poorly here as he did at UNT, and we would never have made any bowls, even mediocre ones. 4) I think the argument that was made was that "the proof is in the pudding." We weren't going to do anything about Jones unless we stopped winning. We stopped winning, and he was gone. If SMU, of all schools, fired a coach after going to multiple bowls in a row (did what Houston did), we would have been laughed at by everyone and no coach would have taken us seriously. Once we re-establish a championship tradition here, THEN going .500 won't be acceptable. But we have to win championships first. 5) We had a group of alumni who ponied up the money for June's salary with the assurance that academic changes would be made at SMU. If we didn't go out and hire the biggest name in the world at the time, the commitment would NOT have been made on either side of the altar. The investment in June forced the university to make a commitment to athletics which it had not made in 25 years. And without that commitment, NOBODY would be able to win games at SMU. If anybody thinks SMU would have changed its "Model" for Todd Dodge, they are quite mistaken. You guys are spending all of your time complaining about the girl that quit on you after getting you to the dance, instead of looking around, noticing all the prettier girls you could hit on once you were there, and forgetting about the first girl.
Re: The NTFCA is also going back to SMU this year
More like the girl that said yes to going to the dance and acted like she was into it but instead took your money and quit on you before the actual dance. Had June delivered a consistent top 25 program, your scenario would have greater validity Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Re: The NTFCA is also going back to SMU this yearCoaches at Rice(multiple), UH(multiple), Memphis, Tulsa(multiple), ECU(multiple), NTSU, TCU(multiple), Baylor(multiple), Southern Miss (multiple), UCF (multiple), ECU (multiple), Louisiana Tech (multiple), Louisiana Lafayette (multiple), Marshall (multiple), Navy (multiple) to name just a few who have been related by region or conference all had better years than June Jones' BEST year. They didn't get a statute either. He left us every bit as bad as we were despite unprecedented changes in SMU Model-95% of which were ALL planned and/or put in place before he got here. He sat on his [deleted] and earned half his salary despite being the highest paid non-P5 Coach during his tenure. Maybe we should have hired one of the plethora of coaches at the third rung schools listed above for half his salary

Re: The NTFCA is also going back to SMU this yearI'm ready to move on. Would I like to sue the guy, yeah, but I'm done being butt hurt about it.
I'm as pissed about 1995-2010 as I am about JJ's last 2 years.
Re: The NTFCA is also going back to SMU this year
I think so much of the disdain around Jones is that unlike previous coaches who failed here, he was given everything he needed/wanted from the administration and the athletic department. He was brazenly disloyal to the point of fraud with Arizona State. Then, after all of that....After giving him an extension, watching him wear rainforests on the sidelines, geldings, stadium lightings, whining about crossing the street for an IPF, etc...After all of that he quits two games into a season and left his fellow coaches, players, and the fans in a ditch. And if that wasn't enough, the man had the nerve to do interviews saying that he didn't think anyone could win at SMU. It truly is an unbelievable sequence of events. I'm ready to move on as well, but I will always remember how he acted these last few years and the absolute mess he left in his wake. Back off Warchild seriously.
