The area College Football fan will be the last to jump on board and quite frankly its pretty doubtful that will ever happen. But for recruiting purposes we need students and season ticketholders to build a reliable core. Our sparse and checkered crowd ruins our chances at most recruits with options. It wouldn't be so bad if students filled the student section and more than 50% of season ticket holders actually consistently showed up.
It's going to have to start in 3-4 years when and "if" we start winning against P-5 schools in a consistent and convincing fashion. You could offer every student $200 to go AND STAY at the game........ but if it means watching an 1-5 team play Memphis at 11:00 a.m. on a Saturday, 95% of the students would turn down the deal.....including the ones who have to work their way through college.
CM's Ra Ra School Spirit speech isn't a bad thing. But it will have 0.00% impact on students going to the game. On the other hand paying for marketing is a bad idea as the money could be spent better elsewhere....
My recommendation instead would be to pay a TCU booster, alum, former player, super fan, etc. to come and speak to the SMU students to tell them what a laughing stock they are, the SMU football team is, their school is and how pathetic they must be to have zero involvement in "THEIR" football team or really care. Have fun at rush... Have fun watching your team play in the new Division III.
You actually took the time to post that. Incredible. There really are too many people in this world.
