Guys, at the risk of making RGV puke, it is what it is. In college, you hit the books or the books hit you. Not every kid is cut out for college life. SMU is absolutely trending up (next year's class is sick and we'll have two more spots). I personally always thought KF was an OAD (Europe) and we got an extra semester out of him -- great!

There's no conspiracy or "Peruna's Law", Coach Brown rolled the dice on a higher risk kid and broke even. MK is likely gone after this year, and if Nic is able to graduate in May he's likely gone too. Whoop [deleted]. I'm actually FARRRR more concerned about the way SMU has f'd up the game presentations as that has two killer consequences: 1) it leads to fan apathy, and 2) recruits don't leave too impressed. Again, whoever approved the change in game programming needs to be terminated immediately. Immediately.

I can guarantee you a midterm loss of Frazier will affect the crowd more than presentation. He is a fan favorite.

There is a reason that LB said earlier this year that he is working on different types of players in the next recruiting class. He needs to get guys that will work hard at school, and shake and those guys don't have academic issues.

Doesn't Keith have a kid? It's tough to go from the environment that some of these guys grow up in and then have to juggle other stuff, playing sports, and actually paying attention in school for the first time. That is the reality.

I HOPE what RGV is saying above is true - that we have made adjustments. Otherwise, this is going to be a killer in recruiting in both hoops and football.

We took some at risk kids, in order to try to get ahead. We are paying for that a little bit right now. But a little change in recruiting combined with some small changes in how we operate as a university can fix this. There are bound to be learnings like this at a school that chose not to compete for 25 years and then started to try to modify their standards. And I do hope the university sees social value that comes with investing in underprivileged kids and giving them a shot. I think there are a lot of folks on the academic side that see the value in it, and I wish they took that same perspective when it came to athletics.

If something happens with Frazier, I hope that they talk with him afterwards. Do a retrospective and find out if SMU really gave the support necessary and he just didn't go to class, or if we weren't as supportive as we should have been.

The real issue with Frazier is that it would be an awesome recruiting tool to show what Larry did with him.

I hope Frazier can turn things around currently. He and Martin still have a shot, despite what others say, otherwise they wouldn't be trying.

Not to get myself in too much trouble, but I really fail to see how this is the school's fault. SMU isn't that hard a place to pass classes unless you really don't try. Whenever a kid comes in on scholarship, they make a deal. SMU promises an education in exchange for them playing a sport. All they have to do is pass their classes. Is that too much for some kids? Obviously. Every school has kids fail (not just athletes) because as it was said earlier, college isn't for all the kids. Some can't cut it academically, some are too immature, some would just rather party. If KF or any other player can't do their part of the bargain, how is that the fault of the school?

Also this thread makes no since 1st semester grades have almost certainly been posted (hence MK is back) so if fraizer had an issue we would have almost certainly already heard about it. Not to mention if Keith was dealing with off the court issues I'd suspect it would be impacting his on the court play as no one. Thinks strong mental toughness when thinking about KF.

At this point I'm starting to think this whole discussion is just an example of passive prejudice and Racism. Keith came from a bad school in a rough part of Dallas, but everyone here acts and talks like KF is a complete idiot incapable of,working hard and doing well if give the opportunity. None of you know him, none of you spend time studying with him.
