what assumption did I make? 3 players have been ruled ineligible this season. 3. That is a fact, not speculation.

Re: So it's official now?Or maybe we take chances we shouldnt because other schools don't have to take such chances.
Re: So it's official now?
If it would help in the future, I would quit my job right now to shadow a player to make sure they get to class and to the ALEC. Love SMU basketball so much and hate to see this for Keith.
Re: So it's official now?So what is the rest of the story regarding the mushroom cloud Forde mentions in his tweet?
Re: So it's official now?
so we should get Jon Konkac to call our players? Derail the Frogs!
Re: So it's official now?
Moody has been deemed unsafe. All remaining games will be back to Garland. Derail the Frogs!
Re: So it's official now?
All these kids have smartphones, right? We just need an app to check 'em in at class. Something. If we're spending 116k+ a year on your butt you damn sure better make it to class and take full advantage of the ALEC and we damn sure had better make sure some one is keeping track of that. Texas bites. Baylor sucks. As it was in the beginning, is now, and evermore shall be. Amen.
Re: So it's official now?Stanford, Duke, and GTown can recruit based on reputation and tradition - they have their pick of academically qualified candidates and don't have to roll the dice on academically risky guys like KF and MK. While I am sure we can learn something from those schools, we aren't at that level yet. LB realized this with the 2015 class.
I'm sure the blame lies with both SMU and KF. At the same time, I give MK a ton of credit for buckling down and getting himself eligible second semester. I am definitely disappointed for both Keith and SMU but will not lose faith in this team. We have come too far in such a short amount of time.
Re: So it's official now?@GoodmanESPN's Frazier report part of mushroom cloud situation at SMU. Assistant who recruited him put on leave. NCAA on case, per source.
"smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: So it's official now?Maybe I missed the memo that in 2015, kids need a babysitter to perform simple tasks. Has anyone stopped to ruminate on the possibility that enforcing basic academic standards is not what makes SMU bad? If there is a prof. who has a vendetta or is anti-athlete...that is bad and their advisors should know well enough to keep them out of there. If their tutors and the ALEC is not tracking their attendance and the school doesn't have someone in each players class who just knows the number to text each day that they were or were not in attendance, then the school needs to get that fixed. But outside of that...it is your job to hit the toilet people. They aren't writing dissertations on Thucydides and the implications of southern European economic stagnation on transnational immigration patterns and social unrest...they are (at least it seems in the case of Kennedy, and we will see for the rest) being asked to attend very basic classes and fill in the few blanks the tutors haven't already filled in for them.
Re: So it's official now?So I assume that when our starting lineup looks like the Washington Generals next year, they'll still be expecting huge sums of money for the privilege of watching?
Re: So it's official now?Live by the sword die by the sword. We take kids who are academic risks and it happens. Hopefully we build to a point that we don't need to gamble as much. All these guys are worth the risk, but it is a risk. Move on, let's see what Ben can do.
Re: So it's official now?
Are we at risk of having to forfeit our wins? All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: So it's official now?On the academic side, I have to wonder if our athletic department and basketball staff are even doing the basics at this point.
Does anyone on the basketball staff do class checks? To be blunt, the average basketball player (and football player) is a marginal, at best, student that would prefer to be anywhere but class. Who is checking whether they're in class every day? Do these guys have mandatory appointments with a tutor for every class they're taking at least once a week? Do these guys have mandatory study hall periods during the week? Does an academic advisor travel with the team to coordinate study periods while on the road? Does the ALEC have the resources to be both the student-athlete academic support center and the academic support center for the rest of the student body? It's not about special treatment to me - it's about the fact that many of our student-athletes are only marginally capable of succeeding at a school like SMU without a lot of help. The ALEC is a great resource for students but student-athletes need dedicated support and that support needs to be proactive in helping student-athletes (ie, if Keith Frazier misses a tutoring session, he gets a call to find out why... and so does his coach). If SMU, our AD, and our basketball staff (and football staff, golf staff, etc) aren't doing those things then we're not even doing the basics when it comes to supporting our student-athletes.
Re: So it's official now?
that's what I keep wondering. If we vacate all of last year's w's and this years....that's almost unrecoverable. As Stallion said, I think we might get some decent guidance as to what worst case scenario might be if we look at Darrell Arthur's situation at KU. Well, other than the fact that we're not KU
