Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StoryLooks like the compliance officer at the center of the DISD scandal involving the death of Trey Causey and DISD school transfers is headed to Court after she was terminated by Superintendant Mike Miles. She really got involved AFTER but BECAUSE of the Keith Frazier situation but with possible discovery and depositions of witnesses it at least provides some context of what is brewing at DISD. Long Story and be forewarned it only really discusses SMU with regard to the fallout after the Keith Frazier grade story. However, I can see discovery and depositions concerning the facts involving the Keith Frazier situation as "reasonably calculated to lead to the discovery of admissible evidence" and therefore discoverable in depositions etc

Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StThanks for sharing. Hope our link is only tangential, although it's another situation that could involve Maligi.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StThanks for posting that.
My two words, Protective Order (not that I'm sure it would do anything). And my guess is that KF is done at SMU, I just hope he isn't being jettisoned to try to pre-empt more drastic meansures imposed by the NCAA. Mustangs Abu!
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD Stmy three words, motion in limine
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StI have absolutely zero inside knowledge on anything, but I have a feeling that Kimball grades are what is being investigated by the NCAA. They will investigate how many players had grades changed, and which coaches from NCAA programs had any contact with people. I bet that it is not just SMU involved, it is probably any school that recruited a bball or football players from Kimball and even the DISD over the past X years.
As a result, SMU was most likely informed that Maligi was under investigation by the NCAA. There is no proof yet, so SMU is doing the safe thing by requesting Maligi go on leave. If there was any guilt expressed by Maligi, he would have resigned or been fired immediately. By him going on leave, SMU is telling the NCAA that we are serious about compliance and are awaiting the completion of your investigation. It is probably the responsible thing to do. It will be really interesting to learn if the KF issue is related to this or school work at SMU. I suspect that we will not know until SMU puts out a formal release about KF.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StSomeone do a rivals search for Kimball class of whatever KF was and see who went where in football and basketball and maybe we'll see the breadth of the alleged mushroom cloud.
JasonB, for all the shxt you take, that's back to back good posts by you.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StSounds to me (but we all new this alrady) that DISD athletics is a dumpster fire. Cesspool really.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD St
Nobody has any idea what a complete and total cluster fk this department truly is. Record keeping at the campus and district level is an abomination. Accountability is non-existent. There is no consistency. Selective enforcement of district and UIL rules is the norm. But they do not have the resources to monitor their programs - so there are renegade personnel and programs. Just visit with some of the UIL district committee members from suburban districts whose schools are in the same district as one or more DISD schools... Irving ISD plus - Sunset, W.T. White, Skyline or CFB Smith and Creekview plus BA, Conrad, North Dallas and TJ. DISD Academic and Residency enforcement is minimal to non-existent - in many (many) cases. Too often they just can't produce documentation for athlete residency or academic eligibility. There are good coaches, good programs, good athletes, good teachers and good administrators in every school district. But the DISD athletic infrastructure has been on a downhill run since W.T. White retired. The lack of "institutional control" is amazing. Last edited by Bergermeister on Fri Jan 16, 2015 3:04 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Just leave it at DISD is a dumpster fire...
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD St
Does the NCAA have any authority to look into an ISD? Wonder how that works.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StPotentially bigger question is; since the NCAA cleared him to play at SMU, absent any smoking gun contact from SMU or coaches to change the grade, is there anything he can do to regain eligibility?
One of the posts on twitter, if based on facts, may be key to understanding what he NCAA is looking into. If NCAA investigation is about HS grades, then he has lost all eligibility. Only question outside of pressure to change grades is potential for vacating wins...but that is usually done in response to a program intentionally hiding or altering facts regarding a players eligibility. Since he was cleared to play, can't see them taking the wins away...just canning his ability to play anymore at this level.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StI think SMU can reasonably rely on NCAA Clearinghouse but has a duty to promptly inform NCAA of any NCAA infractions it becomes aware of . I believe that is what happened. I really think chances of forfeiture is extremely low. See Darrell Arthur at Kansas. Does Kansas have to forfeit their National Championship. The only small qualification is that perhaps Arthur turned pro before NCAA investigation was complete

With Turner being on the Knight Commissions, i'd imagine Ulric would have been terminated immediately if there was conclusive evidence of his participation in this scandal. It is my hope that we are just being overly cautious...[/i]
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StI think I side with Keith Whitmire who tweeted something like his instincts are that there is no NCAA investigation but rather that the NCAA is monitoring SMU's compliance with NCAA rules. I bet SMU was the one that informed the NCAA of possible transcript issues at DISD just like Kansas did in 2008 as they are required to under NCAA rules. Otherwise, I think SMU would be required to disclose that it had received a Letter of Inquiry from the NCAA. If so SMU skates without much punishment
