in my day, the Daily Campus ran "2 for 1" coupons to a place called The Phone Booth. Burger joint at NW & Abrams as I recall that was a popular off campus place to eat. Loved their Alpine Yodler

I think that was an offshoot of a place called Next Door in Lake Highlands. Hickory Burger was good.

Mockingbird and Greenville. SE corner. There was a nice looking waitress there.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Disagree- the original was across M'bird next to Mrs. Bairds. The small strip where they were located was sold off and they closed. Later opened in the area you refer to. After some time IIRC it was sold to Jim Hammond (SMU bball player) and a couple of other 'investors".
IIRC Gary Ferguson and a couple of other fball players worked part-time at the M'bird location while they were in school.
That was where they eventually put in a 7/11. Next to it was a small liquor store...just outside the HP city limits. It was there for ever.

-Two Rows (is that still around?)
No Two Rows unfortunately.
No Filling Station either.
Oh man, those filling station tuneup and tailpipe were awesome!

I believe the small hamburger joint that existed before the 7-11 was called Henry's

Yes, and besides hamburgers, they served up the best pancakes in Dallas!

I've been there!

Has anyone tried it yet? Seems like they replaced the sign but same employees, equipment, etc.

I wish I had so I could say "yes Indeed".

I have - yes, the same pizza oven is being used, and a few of the employees are the same, but there are clearly some Campisi's staff there, too, overseeing things, and the pies have that signature oval shape to them. That being said, I have only had a chance to pick up lunch there once - chose the chicken Alfredo pasta. Was somewhat disappointed - the pasta wasn't fully cooked, the sauce was bland & somewhat gritty and there were at most just half a dozen not very big pieces of grilled chicken, for which they charge $8. Will give the pizza a chance next...
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.

When I was around 9 years old my family ate at Kips one night. I told them, 'That's Lance Rentzel over there and I want to get his autograph'. I walked up to him, he was with another man and they had pictures of what I recall as showgirls on the table. Lance was very polite and gave me his autograph. I believe his brother is Chris Rentzel, a huge SMU supporter.

Chris and I were teammates. There is not a better supporter or person in general than Chris.

The Joe Willy's at Greenville and Park was great. Show your student ID, buy one get one free. They still have a location in Rockwall with basically the same menu.
Ben's Half Yard House - that's a blast from the past. I had a buddy who was a bartender there, Cheap beer and pool.
