Ranked #94 Class on 12-02
On day one of the HCCM recruiting era the SMU class is ranked #94 by Rivals. It will interesting to watch this change between now and the dead time.

The recruiting class dropped below 100 when Marvis Brown decommitted, but it's up to #89 immediately following the 1/19 recruiting weekend.

Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02
So I'm sure most of us would agree that "success" for the 2015 recruiting class has already occurred (ie 2015 is more about laying the foundational relationships/networks to land big 2016 and 2017 classes - and beyond). Having said that, what would you consider a satisfying 2015 class rank? Top 75? That's kind of what I'm thinking. Not sure if there are enough out there realistically on the board to have us make that jump but a West/Castille commitment would help.
Clemons was a solid get. I'm REALLY pulling for English, although everything I've read is that it is a very long shot. Would love to pick up another high 3 star or two with some P5 offers before we close out this class.
(also, according to Scout, we are #4 right now in the AAC behind):
1 - Cincy
2 - USF
3 - ECU

This class will largely be graded on effort, which appears to be an A+.

A+ for effort . . . and self promotion.

Historical Rivals Rankings:
2014 - 99
2013 - 71
2012 - 90
2011 - 50
2010 - 76
2009 - 81
2008 - 91 (June's first class when he had 1 month)
2007 - 99
2006 - 110
2005 - 82
2004 -144
2003 - 62
2002 - 69
Expectations would be to finish better than June's first class because he has more time.
A finish in the 90s would be disappointing. a finish in the 80's I would be happy with because it would be an improvement on where we started. A top 75 ranking would exceed expectations in my opinion, given the late start, the early commitment nature of modern recruiting, and recent history.
Moving forward, I would like to see us finish in the 50s and 60s.

The "better first class of June" would be a reflection on Bennett and not an accolade for Jones or a knock on Morris. Morris' first class will have several June recruits in it that could have a effect one way or the other just as Jones' first class did with Bennett's.

Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02
If I recall with June's first class, Bennett had several 2 star commits when June came aboard, but June was able to bring in players like Banjo and BLM who were 3 star and bumped the rating a bit. I think PB's class when June took over was pretty comparable to where June had it when Morris took over; our ranking when CM took over might actually be better than what it was when June came on board.
Still a little bit of an apples to oranges comparison, because even though CM has 2 months instead of one, players commit a LOT earlier now than they did then, so there aren't as many decent free agents still available now as there were back then.
Really, if you have recruiting classes that average about 2.5 points, you are going to have one of the best classes in our conference. That would be a ranking in the mid 60s. 2.35 average is decent in the conference, and that would be upper 70's, lower 80s.
One thing of note - Memphis had really strong recruiting classes in 2010, 2011, and 2012. They had a really low rated class last year and this year. Their success this season in football might be more of a reflection of those three classes than on the recruiting/coaching abilities of the new staff. It will be very interesting to see if they can sustain their performance, because a lot of those players should be graduating...

I haven't looked, is Ben Hicks counted in the 15 class? or not since he came in already.

To answer my own question, looks like Rivals does not include him while Scout does.

Best barometer to compare this class is vs. coog high & Tulsa pre and post new HCs
