Is this freshman guard a walk on? I do not recall seeing his name before.

I see the walk-on from Washington (state) didn't stay around long. Was that 2 years ago?

According to the mustangs.com Remphrey is a 6-5, 195 lb. guard. This is his bio:Prep: Played for coach Barry Knott at Bishop Lynch HS... Averaged 17 points and six rebounds per game while earning recognition to the TAPPS 6A second-team All-State and first team All-District...Named team captain for senior season and earned team MVP honors while leading in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots and finishing second in assists... Averaged 23 points in non-district games and totaled 30 or more points three times during senior season...Named second-team All-District as a junior while averaging 12 points and five boards per contest...Team finished third in district and qualified for the state playoffs his junior season...Played club basketball for the Dallas Mustangs.

Personal: Plans to major in business...Chose SMU for its business school...Son of Scott and Laurin Remphrey... Father, Scott, played junior college basketball and is a graduate of SMU.

Bryan Remphrey is a very good basketball player. He is about 6'6 and he can play in the post, especially the high post. He is also excellent on the wing with a decent long range shot. His high release makes his shot impossible to block. On defense, he is very tough, he can guard a guard or a post. He uses his quickness to not let any guards get past him and his strength to not let any posts try to back him down. When he gets the ball in the high post and faces the basket, its all but over.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. This ain't grade school anymore. Everyone on the SMU roster is good, right? That is why we are winning our conference and going to the NCAA tournament every year. Until Tubbs is able to recruit some 'high profile' players to SMU, be prepared for average seasons at best. FYI: don't make tournament plans this year....just a hunch fellas.

You can gaurd a post and play the post at 6' 6" in HS. Unfortunately I dont see him being too effective when almost every team trots out a post that is 6' 10"+ and at least 250 lbs. But hey the stats look good on him. Who knows I mean who was the last player we got from Bishop Lynch? He isn't even playing in front of 2 JUCO's.

Wow - maybe we make the tournament this year, maybe we don't. And sure, it's easier to succeed in high school than it is in college. But do you need to write someone off before you've ever seen him play? There's a reason he's a walk-on, so I feel safe in my assumption that this isn't the next Magic Johnson. But it doesn't matter how "high profile" a guy is. If he can play, he can play, and it frankly doesn't matter whether he was a McDonald's All-America or a backup JV player in high school. I'll be interested to see him play, and frankly, I hope he can contribute to the team.

Wrong again! It does matter if a player is a McDonald's All-American or back-up JV player. McDonald's All-Americans are considered the best basketball players in high school. They are better than back-up JV players. Period. There are cases of walk on players making good college players. The cases are rare, though. You are much more likely to get a good / great college player that was a McDonald's All-American. I will take my team of McDonald's All-American players and beat your back-up JV players 100 out of a 100 times. And, yes, I can write off this team. Our best player is academically ineligible. Tubbs is relying on a bunch of prospect big guys to play center and power forward. Tubbs failed to bring in any good JUCO players. And most importantly, Tubbs has failed to recruit a single local player with quality offers from other schools. NOT ONE!...that, pal, means another ho-hum season with no post season tournament appearances. Don't believe me? Let's bet 5K right now. I thought so.

Uh, easy on the "failed" talk Billy Bob. And you might want to look up the offers Dez Willingham had out of high school. He does count as a Tubbs recruit don't ya think? I also think Brian Morris had an offer from Fresno State, they recruit ok. Not sure about Fall, I think Va Tech and maybe South Carolina, but I'm not sure. Its not nearly as bad as you make it sound. Tubbs has this thing going the right way so far. Yes, we all want local Blue Chips, but life aint always easy or fair.

S&S has us projected #8 in C-USA.

They also have our recruiting class ranked #8.

Unless Tubbs signs a marquee player I suspect we will all see more of the same around here.
