Re: P5 Cost-of-attendance
So, for the average cost of attendance do they take into account the cost of dating a Kappa (Porche required) vs. the cost of dating a DG (a dorm room needed with a friendly roommate) and average them?
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: P5 Cost-of-attendance
Not following too closely but I'm sure there's been a lot of discussion around the have-nots leaving the NCAA and making their "student athletes" paid employees with little to requirement to make grades. Great pitch: You're the 2nd coming of Bo Jackson but can't spell your name, come to our school, party and play hard for a few years while making $50k/year

COA addition is way overdue. Imagine you are at a school like SMU with your tuition and room and board paid. Fantastic....but you have no money for clothing so you wear your sweats to class, you have no money for a car or insurance or gas or car expenses or any other transportation expenses. No money for toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, razor, shave cream, laundry, sheets, doctors, dentists.... You don't have any money to ask anyone out on a date or to go to a concert, Cowboys game, Rangers game...all you have is to go back to your room and be around thousands of rich kids who are spending freely. Sure, other students will spend their money on you but talk about a hit to the pride. On top of that the NCAA has rules against you working except for select times of the year. Student Loans....yea but you have to have credit or a co-signer with certain credit standards. This should help SMU's recruiting if SMU offers it because the COA is higher at SMU than many other school in Texas which means the student athletes can get more money than say at TCU since the COA is higher.

Do poor students on academic scholarship ever get a stipend for living expenses at the undergrad level?

Re: P5 Cost-of-attendance
Many of our current student athletes qualify and receive a grant through FAFSA ( Federal Student Aid) some receiving $2,000 a semester. That amount will fluctuate depending upon family's income level. It at least provides them some spending money.

Re: P5 Cost-of-attendance
Poor students have the time/opportunity to work; I worked 40+ hours at night and on weekends while I was in school. That would be impossible for a student-athlete, especially in one of the "revenue" sports.
