I'm just as pumped as anyone about with the staff is doing. Morris's energy is infectious, but he's still a first time head coach, our DC has never called plays before, and as for the rest of the staff, we know they can recruit, but can they coach? The O-line is the biggest problem area on the team and Fry was a GA last year. We have a OC/QB coach who was a GA last year, and QB is probably the second biggest area of concern. I know Morris has his guys, and won't back down from anyone, but he's not Jesus, he's a football coach. There will be growing pains, and that is 100% fine. I'm excited about the future.

If we win 4 games, are competitive against the conference, and don't get but raped by 40+ by TCU and Baylor, I'll be stoked.

Well, it's hard to argue against that. I just think many of the AAC defenses are just as bad as ours but our offense will be better than some (Tulane, Temple, Tulsa . . . even ECU lost some key pieces in their offense . . . and I HOPE we can beat NTSU and whatever FCS school we may schedule).

Who knows. Will be interesting to see.

NTSU will be a good measuring stick for how the season will go. I hope we crush them, but after last year's debacle, who knows.

Not sure why you're lumping Temple in there with Tulane and Tulsa. They were 6-6 and lost to Navy by 7, Memphis by 3 and Cincy by 8 last year and their biggest loss was only 21 points.

Tulsa is trash, but who get's their offense right first, Montgomery or Morris? Tulsa has a better fit at QB for the system right off the bat than us (4* previous Baylor commit), so I guess we'll see. That'll be an interesting game (along with Houston in the star OC first time HC battle)

ECU lost OC Lincoln Riley, but they're still a very solid, fundamentally sound team. They'll be tough again.

Not sure Taggart is a good coach, but damn, that man can recruit for USF, and he's had a few years already. Best class in the AAC this year. That pure talent has to shine through somewhere I'd imagine.

It'll be an exciting year one, but It'll probably still be a pretty tough one. I'd LOVE to be wrong though. 8)

My next thread will be predictions on turnover margins, YPC, 4th down conversions, and FGs.

I'm guessing 3-9 right now, but there's a number of reasons to change that prediction as the season gets closer. 6-6 isn't completely insane if we get a few lucky breaks, but I'm thinking that would be our absolute best case scenario.

Me too. It's a real mystery to me. I do know we'll have a lot of fans at the first game at least. But will the general fanbase take a wait and see attitude and jump the bandwagon when we start to win? Or do we see support from the very beginning?

footballhead just likes to blame the fans for the programs struggles. Just let him troll on.

Program struggles are 100% the fault of June Jones & crew. Crap attendance is legendary and undeniable no matter how you try to somehow deflect on me.

This issue will be the biggest thorn in Morris' side. No doubt he'll recruit, win and change the team culture. Changing the SMU fan culture a much tougher task.

You're answering my question with a question. Last year I did not have football season tix for the first time in years, but I did watch on TV. I know the attendance was terrible. Kind of like the players, I believe the fans quit on JJ, too. I just believe this hire will energize the fan base. That should translate in attendance. You don't think so? I'm as skeptical about SMU fans as anyone but I still believe they will support a team/coaching staff if they are giving it their all - see hoops.

BTW, I know you didn't care for JJ and it also seems you have no faith in our fans. I only know you from what you post on PFs. So, I'm curious why you would want your son to go to a school with a terrible coach and terrible fans?

I agree and I've got a pretty good feel of how our fan base reacts to things. I can actually see 10,000 more butts in seats at next year's games. I guess we will see how big an increase we have in season ticket. It should be considerable.
