Re: Less Ben EmeloguBrown is old school, no doubt. He prefers wins in the paint to launching them from outside. Ben (as noted on the past two broadcasts including B. Knight) does not seem to shoot under control. He tends to shoot on the move instead of getting good mechanics. Maybe that worked for him at VT when he played 30 minutes a game. If he jacked up 20 shots and made 7, he looked pretty good at around 20 points. When he jacks up 4 and makes none, not so good. Under LB's system a 3 is a last resort shot or a shot used to soften a zone. Meaning if you're going to shoot from outside, you'd better hit, or they'll jam even further into their zone (see Cindy game). If Ben can turn himself into a three specialist and work on shooting his shots under control, he could really up his minutes.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Less Ben Emelogu
More times than not and its really not close, talent wins out. Larry will tell you as much. How has he developed Nic Moore? Nic was a monster before he stepped foot on this campus. Did you not see his frosh year w/Jank? He's exactly who we thought he'd be. I'm far from sour on SMU and Larry, just keeping it real. Being a legendary coach, doesn't necessarily make him or his system, the right fit for everyone. I can't tell you how many times I've had discussions w/people who get paid to recruit, that Moreira should have gone somewhere like Baylor. His talents are better suited to Baylors system. Does that mean I think Drew is a better coach? Hell no. Huge diference
Re: Less Ben Emelogu
You're missing the point. We're doing what we should do given our talent level. He develops some players, other players not so much, just like any coach. He's not out coaching teams, he's got good players that buy in. That's to his credit, but he's got better [players more nights than not. This program's success has been more about talent acquisition than coaching them up.
Re: Less Ben EmeloguI would agree with that. Gonzaga is the only team we've played that had more talent than we did.
