Re: Coog fans classy as alwaysUH was the dirtiest football team we ever played in my day.
I am impressed that the student section was able to string five whole syllables together and it was coherent. They have come a long way since my day.
Re: Coog fans classy as alwaysOK, I'm working in Philly and it's Friday night. I end up with 3 girls from Kensington (tough white Irish neighborhood in Philly) at a bar. I buy a round of beers and shots and having just moved up from Dallas, where women are a bit slow on grabbing the wallet, I figure I'm in for an expensive night. After the shot the 1st Kensington women says, this round is on me. wow, the 2nd women says my turn, then the 3rd. I love Philly women. If a bevy of Philly women are willing to take you out for the night you'll have a great time.
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have a similar experience with 3 women from Houston.
Re: Coog fans classy as alwaysIn my experience, Dallas women have been very quick to grab the wallet. it's just mine, not theirs.
Re: Coog fans classy as alwayswhat was the deal with the boat caps?
Re: Coog fans classy as alwaysIt is not being a grandma to think crude language in public makes the user of same look like a total moron. And I disagree it is generational - I think it is about economic class. F bombs are typically less educated blue collar (Tech/Houston/Philly/New Jersey) SMU is not very blue collar, and we generally don't want to appear stupid, so not very many - young or old - use it in public. Its why you hear it a bunch at Tech and not so much at SMU. Not saying I have been guilty of dropping one - but I have always looked dumber as a result.
Re: Coog fans classy as always
I am just curious what he meant, I did not say it was important. I am sure he has a reason for the opinion and I am interested in hearing it. Maybe I will learn something.
Re: Coog fans classy as alwaysWho cares, they're dumb kids.
Re: Coog fans classy as always
Hard to tell.. The largest clump of people were in the SMU fans section (109), as well as the student section (112 and/or 113). The rest of the UH fans were spread pretty thin around the entire rest of the arena.
I was born and raised in Houston. Went to Dallas, lived there for about 15 years, and now I'm back in Houston again. I personally do not like Houston. - The food scene in Houston is definitely getting a lot better compared to what it used to be, but I think Dallas is better. - For the most part, I think the way neighborhoods are laid out in Houston isn't very appealing to me. - I like that Dallas has better public transportation, which isn't say much for either city. Dallas has better handicap transportation services for those that live outside of the city and need to commute in (using Dart). - Living in Dallas gives you more access to lakes without having to travel too far. Houston has Lake Houston, which is big, but not very accessible if you live on the opposite side of town. - Humid and hot as hell - No seasons Anyways, could keep going on, but these are the first few things that came to mind without having to think about it.

I was wondering this too. While we had Romo, Garrett, George W Bush, etc. etc., UH somehow convinced the Skipper from Gilligan's Island to come to their game. I bet if they work REALLY hard - they can convince their congresswoman to show up to a future game: ![]() As they were announcing the new Football coach and bringing out the Bowl trophy and FB team at halftime last night - though there would be more support from the UH crowd. All those SMU Football recruits who flipped from UH have to feel pretty good about their decisions. Big Difference from when Morris was announced at Moody. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Coog fans classy as alwaysI thought it was neat that the fans had an opportunity to meet the football players before the game. A lot of the players were all sitting at tables with a pen ready to answer questions and sign autographs.
Really cool opportunity for the fans.
Re: Coog fans classy as alwaysThere was a UH fan behind us in 109 who was generally friendly and humble, but when the football team walked onto the floor for halftime, he turned to his dad (an SMU alum) and said "at least you get to see what a winning football team looks like" to which I calmly turned around and said "we'll have a winning football team soon enough". 7-5 does technically make you a "winning" team, but it's not like UH is Alabama or anything. I wasn't exactly jealous of their success.
Re: Coog fans classy as alwaysUH hoops fans are used to small crowds. It's going to take an extra year or two relative to SMU. Instead of people transferring in when LB became SMU's coach, UH had net player losses. Got a nice Purdue transfer (Ronnie Johnson) but lost House and Thomas.
I'm just glad students showed up and were rowdy. ![]() Last edited by tristatecoog on Sat Feb 14, 2015 12:18 am, edited 1 time in total.
