Vanderbilt ? for anyone in SEC country

Watching the Vandy-Florida game on ESPN2. I know they've only won 2 SEC games this year, but they are definitely giving UF a good game.

How have they gotten better in recent years since axing the athletic dept? I figured they would have faded into obscurity, but seems they have improved. Is this real improvement or just a strong season because of some veteran starters?

I'll always root for the smaller private schools because it gives me a small bit of hope that SMU can someday achieve the same success against the big state schools.

Wow, and Vandy just got homered.

Vandy scores to bring it up to 34-35, and is called for excessive celebration, forcing them to kick the PAT rather than go for 2. Showed the replay and all the guy did was drop the ball, not spike it, and jump up and embrace one of his teammates. Very lame call, now I'd really love to see Vanderbilt pull out the win.

Vandy hired a terrific coach in Bobbie Johnson, who had a great run at Furman, building them into a ver strong I-AA program. Heard an interview with Spurrier just before USC played Vandy this year and he talked about how much respect he has for Johnson. Said he sat with Johnson at the SEC meetings and started to say: "we're probably the only two programs in the SEC that don't..." and then stopped and said "I won't go there". Just a hunch, but might have been a reference to paying players? Vandy is also fortunate to have a very talented QB this year...makes ALL the difference.
