Out recruiting classes haven't exactly been stellar. We've already lost Frazier and lost MK for academic reasons earlier.

What is LSU doing differently? Or a&m? Didn't kentucky sell their souls for Calipiari? Or every single creditable top football program or basketball program for that matter.

I guess I'm just naive As to how different we really are treated.

Its not that we're doing anything different, it's just that the barrier of entry was higher for a no tradition program like SMU. We have no recent history of 'playing the game' or infrastructure to take on everything that entails. Then, we brought in a staff that was too young and too brazen.

Our recruiting classes have been incredibly stellar when you include transfers and juco's.

That bolded part of your statement speaks volumes. That is what makes the NCAA problems seem so very frustrating. Good Lord that really is just messed up.

The magic number is 70. When we score 70 points, we generally don't lose. I have faith in our defense, generally, but our offense has sometimes been sporadic. This team is great and can beat anybody. Let's just keep doing what we do tomorrow night! Get to 70! Come out with nonstop energy.

Looking over their roster and stats - they have big guards so what will be interesting is how hot the guy who Nic guards, gets. I am one of Nic's biggest fans and this will sound like a knock against him, but he sometimes struggles guarding bigger guards who can shoot over him (he gets late to jump at the shooter and they just shoot over them). He is the liability of defense. They have two 6'10" guys but they don't do much. It's really a 3 headed guard monster - Morgan, DeCosey, and Cummings. If it were just 2, I'd be ok (Sterling and Brown) but we have to watch for a 3rd guard to heat up which could make the game very very tight.

Nic on defense. That's the X factor.

I still think we win, but I'm just sayin' . . .

They were crushing us in the first half last time we played. Outscored them by 15 or something in the second half. Need a better start.

I was at that game. It was one of our "turnover fests." We played VERY poorly for most of the game until our defense turned it around and Markus became a force inside. It was an early turning point in our season and a really good road win. It could easily have gone the other way.

We always have big guards. It's Dunphy's trademark.

Dalton Pepper 6'5 220
Dionte Christmas 6'5 205
Quenton DeCosey 6'5 205
Khalif Wyatt 6'4 205
TJ DiLeo 6'3 210
Devin Coleman 6'2 205
Luis Guzman 6'3 200
Jesse Morgan 6'5 190
Ramone Moore 6'4 190
Juan Fernandez 6'4 195
Josh Brown 6'3 185

Cummings is the smallest guard Dunphy has recruited to Temple and he's a solidly built 6'2 185.

We have two more big freshman guards coming in next year. Trey Lowe is 6'6 175 and Levan Alston is 6'4 175. They're both really, really skinny, but will fill out to 190+ easily.

As far as our 6'10 guys, McDonnell doesn't play. He's a GPA booster. Watson plays awkwardly, but he's playing pretty well right now. He didn't really play much against ECU, but the 5 games before that he averaged 6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 blocks. We look for blocks, defense, and a few rebounds from him, so the 6 PPG were money in the bank.

Good point. The first part of the year we had huge issues with turnovers and we have cleaned that up a lot and it has showed in results obviously. I am glad we don't have to play @Temple right now. Need some Moody Magic.

This post off their board cracked me up.

I would wager money that SMU falls off the map once LB walks away. Is that the best thing for the conference? Obviously not, but the Mustangs have caught lightning in a bottle with LB taking the job. Based on SMU's athletic history I have very little faith they'll contribute much in Football and/or basketball. UConn, Cincinnati, Temple an Memphis will be the ones that carry this league moving forward. Sure they'll be a team or two that steps up but I don't see this league ever being that deep.

I wouldn't take our free board too seriously. They're too cheap to pay $100 a year for Rivals.

To be honest I'm a bit worried about smu basketball after LB leaves. We have nice enough facilities but I don't know if we can recruit without LB.
