28 wins?

Postby ojaipony » Sat Feb 21, 2015 1:14 pm

That's the record right?

If we win out we're at 25-5 with 2-3 wins possible in AAC. First tourney game could be for the record.

Kato Armstrong -whatever happened to that Dude. Most underrated SMU Basketball player in SMU History? His performance at SWC Tournament and then against Notre Dame on St. Paddy's Day were some of the greatest in SMU Basketball History.

Win No. 28:

SWC Regular Season and Tournament Champions

Has SMU ever recognized that Team? Its our only Regular and Tournament Champion team plus the quality NCAA Tournament victory. Probably the most satisfying season in Half of a Century. Kato should be in the SMU Hall of Fame

Stallion - you are right on. Kato was incredible. I especially remember his leaping ability
and shooting. I don't know what his vertical leap was but he could dunk it to the elbows.
That was a very exciting team - Todd Alexander at the 2 guard was a great left-handed jump
shooter who hit consistently from long range.

Kato should be in the SMU Hall of Fame. He has my vote.

It would be great if this team can crack 28 wins. Go for it Mustangs. I have really enjoyed
this year. The coach, the team, Moody, and the students have made it special.

Kato, Todd Alexander, Eric Longino were all decent 3 point shooters on that team...especially Alexander. Both Longino and Alexander were transfers from UIC and Minnesota respectively, and I think Kato Armstrong was Mookie Blalock's cousin.

I was at that 1st round win against Notre Dame in Chapel Hill. Will always remember Kato driving down the lane and dunking over Notre dame's big man. Even the ACC folks in attendance appreciated that moment

Kato Armstrong is related to every one. Everson Walls, Herkie Walls, Mookie Blaylock and some others like the Smith brothers who were top recruits back in the day.

Ah yes! Good Times - Good Times!

Saw that game at Ball's Hamburgers in Snyder Plaza with Waldorf (Captain EJ Smith). It be one year next month that he departed us. He will be watching our tourney run.

I'll worry about 28 when we get to 27, but yeah!

Don't forget Carlton McKinney (sp??)
He had longer hair, perhaps dreds, as I recall an absolutely ferocious dunker. One here in Austin against ut in the Erwin Center sticks in my memory as kid.
Yes that team was special...

Yes - Ball's was around then. I watched several Big Dance games from there that year.

Wish it were still there - it was very good - but the owner became very ill.

Vernon Perdue as well. I had a Philosophy class with him that Spring during the run. After the tough loss in the NCAA tourney and he came back to class, the professor recognized him and had the class give him a standing ovation.

Nice to see a Prof proud of SMU sports.
