Cotton Bowl: The ReturnI have a dream that involves SMU playing a game in the House that Doak Built again. That place may be a dump, but I have many fond memories of it.
1) my first sMu game back in the 70's with my father 2) the World Cup with my father 3) my father and I taking my grandfather to a SMU game 2019/20 - we are good enough to bring in a "draw" for a game during the State Fair. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Cotton Bowl: The ReturnIt is actually quite decent since the renovation

Re: Cotton Bowl: The ReturnHadn't really thought about this, but I like it. Be fun to play say TAMU there once we get into the Top 25.
Re: Cotton Bowl: The ReturnI've always thought this would be a great idea. Also, if we ever get good enough in football to get in the door in Birmingham to give our pitch to the SEC brass, I thought it would be a cool idea to propose an SEC game each year (either us vs. A&M or Arky, whoever we had at home that year) at the Cotton Bowl during the State Fair to rival Texas-OU. (Perhaps the week before?)

Re: Cotton Bowl: The Return
Is a "draw" team really going to want to play at the Cotton Bowl? Draw teams come here to play at AT&T Stadium. Last edited by sbsmith on Sun Feb 22, 2015 9:12 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Cotton Bowl: The ReturnA&M and Arkansas are already playing an annual game in Dallas. They will not do another.

LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, or Auburn could also work. All would travel well. It could be a different rotating SEC opponent each year. Please do not mess up my fantasy, mrydel. I don't interfere with yours 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Cotton Bowl: The ReturnBefore we decide to play there, we need to make sure we can sell at least 30,000 of the tickets. It would be stupid for us to play a "home" game and be outnumbered 5:1.
Re: Cotton Bowl: The ReturnI would rather make it a Big TEN(ish) team compared to an SEC team. Someone like Wisconsin or Iowa. 1) Their brand name is big enough to make it a relevant game to the DFW market. 2) They really want access to the market to recruit, but they are northern enough where southern kids would think twice about going. 3) Those schools travel really, really well and would fill seats in a big stadium.

Re: Cotton Bowl: The ReturnI'd like to see SMU and TCU play there once in a while. Or teams that don't have an annual game in Dallas like Oklahoma St., Baylor, Tech (not so hot on this one), etc.

Re: Cotton Bowl: The ReturnI remember seeing both Ohio State and Purdue play SMU in days gone by. The best I remember, both games were well attended by both SMU fans and the visitors.
Re: Cotton Bowl: The Return
Baylor and Tech play in Dallas every year, and in Ft. Worth every other year. Stallion doesn't think I'm a stinkin' genius anymore.
Re: Cotton Bowl: The ReturnWe should see if Michigan would be interested in a return "away" trip after we play them up there in 2018. Play it at the Cotton Bowl and offer them 1/2 of the gate receipts. I'm sure Harbaugh would love to come down here and get some exposure in the Metroplex for recruiting

Re: Cotton Bowl: The Return
My Dream Matchups: 1) Arkansas - tradition and they travel well. Thousands of Hog fans on the Midway would be lots of fun; 2) Michigan - you made a great point; 3) Notre Dame - I still kick myself for attending the Rolling Stones concert (at the Cotton Bowl) instead of road tripping to South Bend in 1989. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
