That doesn't sound like a lot, but we beat out a lot of stuff, including a bunch of those euro soccer league games ESPN keeps desperately trying to cram down our throat

Don't go too crazy about beating a Europa qualifier on a channel you have to pay extra for and isn't available on some systems by 37K. The real question this raises is whether the Temple student body and alumni base decided not to watch en mass or if that wasn't reflected. Would be mildly interested to see the market share of similar games last season vs this season...what has the increase in % of viewers for similar programming been. Then again, maybe I'm a hater or something similar but I question the validity of Nielsen ratings.

I prefer to see that we've gone from about 10,000 people watching some games on ESPNNews last year to 152,000 people watching a game against a very solid, but not marquee opponent on ESPN2. Glass half here for me today.

the numbers I would be interested in seeing would be from our game against UCONN. Mepmhis UCON pulled a good number n espn and neither of those teams are going to the tournament but they have a bigger basketball brand currently than SMU.

It's on FS2...a channel you have to pay extra for and the Europa League is like the NIT for Euro Soccer...and it's on in the afternoon during the week...

Exactly. I think much of the Nielsen noise is crap. The only true comparison is when you look at similar product in the same timeframe, and over a set period of time, to determine viewership trends for the brand. As is made clear by the product that was offered in several of the games that achieved higher numbers than us, name brand recognition trumps quality (SEC basketball and UCONN v. Memphis?!?). The kids on the court are doing everything they can to bring up that recognition with their play. The school needs to continue doing its part (giving them the benefit of the doubt that there is a campaign organized) to ensure any and every opportunity to advertise the brand is taken and carried out in an exemplary manner. The financial cost of starting this campaign is rewarded in the long run.

also need to consider how much ESPN promoted this game. Some games they mention on every Sportcenter, in game promo etc, others they do not.

When gameday was here the week before ESPN was touting all the afternoon games and wasn't really mentioned the SMU UConn game.
