True, it is a courtesy not to play when the other band is playing. However, sometimes you can not hear the other band and accidents happen.

Copy cats. It is interesting how many schools copy the Mustang Band and the SMU Alumni Band. There are now other schools who have started alumni bands that perform at home games. And it won't be long before other alumni bands start performing at basketball games during the holiday breaks. Jim Copeland once commented to me that other AD's asked him what SMU did for spirit during the holiday breaks while the band students were away. He would reply "Our Alumni Band performs." The other AD's would look at him with a puzzled face and reply "Alumni Band?"
