Well to the extent you are a sunshiner, I was. Just not about that particular post. Hang on to your savings.

Note to jtstang:
Remember we play the Seven Blind Sisters of the Southland Conference next year so be careful about claiming the sunshiners wont finally get their day next year and become bowl eligible. How does SMU being bowl eligible with victories over Sam Houston State Monument, Arkansas State Tech College, North Texas Normal College, Rice, Tulane, and Tulsa grab ya! We could be ranked in the Bottom 20 and still go to a Bowl next year with CUSA getting 5+ bowls.

I think this makes us a better football team personally. One big advantage is that you get an athlete like Vincent Chase on the field.
That is correct. I would kind of like to see a fullback instead of the 2nd tight end though. Or use V. Chase as a fullback. I think Martin could benefit from a lead blocker at least until he learns to read his holes better.

Well, I mean, I hope its true, and that the sunshiners have their day. I just don't have any expectations for it, that's all.

So you're saying you don't want to see the Ponies get to a bowl game? Sure, I'd like to see us beat the Sooners, Seminoles and Trojans on our way to the national championship game. But if we're in the Stallion Bowl against Vanderbilt or some other perceived also-ran, I plan to be there. And acting on a concept that might seem far-fetched, I'll be cheering FOR the Ponies.
Damn, maybe that does make me a sunshiner. Silly me -- I always thought rooting for my alma mater made me a fan.

That is my complaint with Copeland and the powers that be......with a 12 game schedule, and the level of competition in CUSA, we should EXPECT to win 9 games next season.

Being a sunshiner is a lot more fun than being a doom and gloomer with no expectations and with your only hope for having fun is to try to make sunshiners feel stupid. I actually feel sorry for people who always look for or see only the worst in every situation. I'm a sunshiner and proud of it. So if going through life with no expectations is your way of dealing with life...have at it, but don't try to drag me down into your gloomy dungeon...cause I'm not interested.

Sorry to derail this thread back to topic, but after reading that roster and knowing what little I do about this team, things are looking very promising for next year. I just hope Phillips gets his shot or he may head for the hills.

How dare you!
But since you did, I'm curious about Dustin Morton being named the starter at right guard. Has he played? I don't know much about him at all.

I don't think expectations are a problem. The problem is the "expectations" of "sunshiners" are rarely based on fact or reality. The problem is that "ah, shucks" attitude of the sunshiners when their "expectations" aren't met. In other words, they aren't expectations at all, but rather wishes or hopes.
Case in point: A couple of guys are saying McMurtray and Mentzel should be all C-USA. Neither bothered to look up their stats against other C-USA kickers. Both are ranked 6th statistically in every relevant category. The exception is that Mentzel is tied for longest single punt.

Thank you. I've been trying to make that point for years. I think we all pretty much have the same wishes and hopes for this football program.

Expectations according to Webster is "anticipation of future good" nowhere does it state the reason for an expectation validates it one way or the other. I expect to see progress in our team and I think it is there, but we still have a long way to go to get where we want to be. The difference between a sunshiner and a doom and gloomer is that the former looks for the positives and the latter looks for the negative. Personally I don't find perpetually negative people to be much fun to be around. Also, lest you think otherwise, being a sunshiner does not prevent one from seeing, acknowledging, or acting to correct problems when they exist. All that being said, there are degrees of sunshine and gloom...no one definition fits all on either side of the fence.
