merely a cop-out by the dmn (also known as the longhorn chronicles) -
u can take it to the bank that when the cowboys were losing all the time in the early 60's they still got front page headlines - just another excuse by the local paper / nothing more would make the dmn happier is for the tea-sips & the farmers (& probably tech) to be the only super conference teams in texas (in other words - the bcs-bs which is a superconference & everyone else div 2) BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
If that's true then they must be ecstatic already. Maybe if SMU played above the level of a div 2 team they'd get more respect.
Please, stop talking about this. It's dumb. The majority of Dallas at present doesn't give a crap about SMU Athletics much less SMU in general. The paper is the Dallas Morning News. Not the SMU or Park Cities Morning News. When we become Dallas's college football team again which may never happen they will cover us as such. Until then stop whining..................please.
until smu becomes a member of the bcs-bs (or it dissolves altogether), we will always be 2nd fiddle to tex-ass & the farmers!!!
the life in the new college football era of the superconference: bcs-bs BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

How can you just gloss over the fact that we are really bad in what you admit is a less-than-super-conference, and have been for years, when you try to figure out why we are second fiddle to teams who are good in a so-called superconference? Sunshiner.
Any present readers of the Dallas Morning News would be pleasantly surprised at how much you can improve your attitude and brighten your outlook if you just eliminate it from your routine (life). If you are not familiar with the Star Telegram - it will remind you of the good ol' days of the daily newspaper. I highly recommend it!
u missed the whole point - jstang
it has nothing to do with our record - its bcs-bs or nothing else in today's college/pre-nfl farm football system - BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
And you missed my point--if we were in a BCS conference and were as hapless as we are in our second-tier conference, which we would be and then some, we would still lag so far behind Texas and A&M in DMN coverage that you would be forced to acknowledge it has nothing to do with what conference SMU was in. It has to do with the amount of public interest in the team, and rightfully so. The amount of coverage we get has EVERYTHING to do with our record.
& u missed the whole point again son -
as long as the split is in college football, no matter what happens, it ain't happening for us or anyone else outside the cartel - BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
If SMU had TCU's record and had its attendance, SMU would be on the front page of the DMN sports section 2-3 times a week.
exactly. The future of SMU Football is not hopeless. I am a big optimist on what SMU CAN DO if they willing to even the playing field. If SMU were banging on the BCS Championship doorstep like TCU has in several years we would receive much more attention.
So that's why we see TCU there 2 - three times a week? Get real...Mr. reality. TCU who has, by your own account, more fans in the DFW area then SMU gets as little attention in the DMNews as we do.
Now, wait, the BCS changed everything...everything good about amateur collegiate football. Do some research and I will bet during the SWC days that SMU was on the front page every Sunday. Ask yourself what changed, not our football record, but the "super conferences". And why did UT and A$M leave if not for the money. And who bought into it, the DMN. I refuse to let them off the hook!
