But the Catholic 7 had to leave first, before an American could even exist.

Right.

I have no grudge against the C7 schools because they finally had the balls to call BS in a league that was falling apart solely because of football, so they had no say in their future. I hope the American and the New Big East can start up a conference rivalry week the way the other conferences have. It'd really help both conferences improve their OOC scheduling and maybe spark (and re-ignite) some rivalries.

I understand why they left and it was a good move on their part in every way except for TV. Cutting ties with ESPN has really limited their exposure, but it certainly hasn't hurt the conference's reputation for the NCAA tournament.

Not sure what that has to do with this argument but when did I call someone an idiot who questioned us making the tourney? Please tell me.

Who gives a rats [deleted] about league respect? You realize to win the AAC, we just beat ECU, Temple and UConn. That's the easiest road to a tourney championship ever. Of course teams like Temple and Tulsa can beat a few squads here and there, but the AAC was hardly murderers row. Maybe one or both got screwed, but at the same time, they aren't particularly good either. It's what it is. Beat UCLA

This is a somewhat ironic statement considering you guys got screwed last year by the committee.

Glad SMU will be repping the conference this year, but in the long term we collectively need to figure out how to get some respect for the AAC.

Georgetown is a four seed. We are a six.
The defense rests.

You're a good poster but you might wanna check your posts around this time last year when there were a few of us who felt we weren't the "lock" that some of you geniuses thought we were. We are not a name program and didn't get the benefit of the doubt last year. We earned it this year. The conference though, as a whole, is not getting anywhere near the respect it deserves.

No doubt, our conference is getting shafted. I completely agree with you on that, but let's focus on the positive for once. We are in and the future is bright. As you like to say, let's drop the battered wife syndrome. Just win.

We didn't get screwed, we didn't play anyone OOC. We did this year, handled business despite a lot of crazy eligibility stuff. I'm sorry, when we're arguing Tulsa who played no one and Temple who never met consistency, it speaks to league strength. AAC needs Temple, UConn and Memphis to be like the programs of old, but they aren't right now. Again, it is what it is

Fair enough. My frustration lies not with SMU or The American. Is it our conference leadership? Maybe. Not having a voice in the committee is probably not wise. It is up to us and Cincy to prove the committee wrong. Would love to see the two of us make a Sweet 16 run.

We HAVE to get representation on the committee, but that is not our immediate concern. We need to win now.

UConn won the national championship last year and lost probably 60% of their scoring coming into this season. So we'll be back, don't worry about that. Temple and Memphis will be right there year in and year out, more or less.

What we all should be worried about is what the bottom feeder programs (Tulane, UCF, USF, Houston, ECU) are doing to get to respectable levels so that they're not killing our RPI even when we win games against them.

I think in this brave new P5 world there is going to be a need for the best of the G5 to form either a 14 or 16 team conference that was sort of resembles the original plan for The American.

West - SDSU, Boise State, BYU, Colorado State

Central - Cincinnati, Memphis, SMU, Houston

South - UCF, USF, ECU, Tulane

North - Navy, UCONN, Temple, Northern Illinois

Did you really put Tulane in ahead of Tulsa?

Yea, I'm not a big Ollie or Pastner guy, so I'm not sure either are truly on the mend. No idea what to do w/UCF, USF and ECU. I have hope for Houston
