Re: Best quote from the Boneyard (UCONN Board):Someone posted this for UCONN fans who think they belong in the Big 10
Re: Best quote from the Boneyard (UCONN Board):
![]() It just stems from adding a little of the New Orleans jazz flavor into the uniforms. The dixieland revival of the 50's saw this kind of become a standard look for a lot of jazz bands, so the Mustang Band added it to 'jazz' things up on the visual side. Keep in mind it was the late 50's, early 60's, and practically every marching band in the world wore some version of a standard military uniform. The Mustang Band wanted to do something different so they went with the blazers, ties, and straw hats. The Princeton band also has a similar look, but they went off the deep end with the rest of the Ivy League and do the whole Rice/Scatter/Joke band: ![]() Sent from my Motorola brick.

The waiter in my company's box on Saturday thought SMU was in Missouri. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Best quote from the Boneyard (UCONN Board):Well, that is probably why he is a waiter in a box instead of a tenant in a box.

Re: Best quote from the Boneyard (UCONN Board):The candy stripe jackets date back to at least 1958 when Irving Dreibrodt took over as the Mustang Band director with 8 upperclassmen and 40 freshmen (the "fighting forty"). Coach needed to reinvent the band which was in the dumpster. The snazzy uniforms, jazzy arrangements and heavy duty school spirit helped give the band relevance against the much larger conference rival bands. Proud to have been a part of this group!

Re: Best quote from the Boneyard (UCONN Board):Here's a couple quotes from that same thread:
Re: Best quote from the Boneyard (UCONN Board):SMU was ranked 18/19 in the polls and seeded #21, that was definitely a fair position. ZERO wins over at-large teams (0-5 record) means you got a favorable seed to your paper resume.

Exactly...and that is a deceptively good doc. My son watched it and was asking questions non-stop.
