Yes, being affiliated with Tulsa and UCF is damning, but the fact that your football program is a dumpster fire with bad facilities in a talentless part of the country is irrelevant.

As a CT taxpayer, I can tell you that leaving the AAC is not off the table. The state is broke and almost nobody believes that Uconn will ever have a stable, winning program anytime soon. Since the FB program runs at a deficit, the idea of moving FB back to FCS (or killing it outright) is spreading.

Most Uconn Fans could give a flip about college FB. They want to be in the Big East for BB. At some point, it might happen.

While that would suck for the conference I understand the rationale for UCONN. They play in an area of the country void of high school football talent in a conference that they have no traditional or regional rivalries. So they'd want to join the A10 or the BE for basketball and drop football to FCS?

The Big East bounced back big time this year. Last year was a down year, this year they got 6 bids, same as the ACC. I can understand UConn thinking of giving up FBS and moving to FCS and the Big East. They could join the CAA for football if they want to play high Div FCS, or they could join the Yankee Conference with Lehigh and Georgetown if they want to play low Div FCS.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

That would suck short term, but long term the more teams give up football the better for the ones left. That would cement their status as an also ran in any big conference discussion - so I hope they do it.

Hell, I'd be happy if SMU went with this plan. (But we can wait and see how the Chad Morris experiment turns out first, because I'm cautiously optimistic.)

The Big East was good to UConn football and they were relevant for short while. Even backed into a BSC bowl. One would think f they could dedicate their efforts like we have to FB they could be the power program in the New England area. Dropping football to a lower level will make them attractive to U of Vermont and other NE might mouse programs but eventually hurt national exposure. Still, probably makes sense for them to quit football and just concentrate on BB.

Why would we dump football? Once we start winning I hope this nonsense is ever mentioned again. Freakin battered wife syndrome

If we start winning, sure. It's not really "battered wife syndrome"; I just prefer basketball and would personally prioritize it, as I think it is a better fit for a small private university.

And for the record, I have zero belief that we would actually drop football. Basketball may be the "big dog" right now, but I'm well aware that most SMU fans are still football fans first and basketball fans second.

They are not natural rivals but I am pretty much to the hate point with SMU.

It disgusts me how SM freaking U is owning us in basketball. They even beat us in the Toilet Bowl in football! That was supposed to be one of our few wins this past year.

And the final straw was hearing their Barber Shop dressed band taunting us with NIT chants at the end.

I hate SMU.

That guy is prone to overreaction and his avatar is the guy who single handedly ruined UConn athletics.

But it's good that SMU is good. One of the few fun opponents on the conference schedule, but you gotta do it consistently for more than 2 seasons before I'll call you a rival. My two cents.

And y'all gotta beat us more than once in either basketball or football before we do the same.

I think the Big East is living on borrowed time. Their TV deal affords them very little exposure (which was one of the reasons why Buzz Williams bolted Marquette for VT).

If UConn harbors any illusions of one day joining the ACC or Big Ten, they need to up their football profile, not drop to the MAC.
