Would a Larry Brown Coached SMU Benefit from :30 Clock

Postby Stallion » Tue Mar 17, 2015 9:02 pm

NIT experimenting with :30 second Clock. I think it would have minimal affect on our offense but definitely help defensively much more. It seems like it takes a team 15-20 seconds to set up their offense against the disruption caused by our Defense. We get into our sets much quicker.

Yeah - good point.

We get the opposition deep in the shot clock so often that extra five seconds would make a pretty big difference on the defensive end.

Is like to see a 1 minute clock. Not everything has to be exactly like the NBA.

Uh, no. Might as well just not have a shot clock and have 2-0 games.

At change of possession, 3pt/fg are worth 5/4 points. After 20 seconds it goes to 4/3. after 40 seconds 3/2, after 1 minute 2/1.

While we're at it, we should add a bonus multiball round where 5-6 basketballs shoot out of half court.

Half court should light up for fifty points twice a half.

Coach Brown has said that he likes the idea of a 30 second clock. Even the women now play with a 30 second clock.

The women are used to dealing with 30 second experiences.

I never have liked a shot clock for college hoops, period, and don't care much what the NBA peddles. I think a coach ought to be able to run an offense that maximizes chances with the players on the squad.

About a hundred years ago, like many of my SMU sports memories, we played TCU in their gym and they stalled. We won and the final was maybe something like 26 - 22. It was not a dull night - and it was as satisfying a trip back to Dallas - finally - as if the score had been 100 - 85 or something like.

I agree. And with the way our defense can shut down an opponent it would definitely help SMU.

If we continue to win, would it really matter one way or the other?
