Exhibition Tonight - Ark Tech - 7:00pm

Postby bagice » Mon Nov 14, 2005 11:02 am

Imagine the crowd will be very thin considering this is a Monday game and the Cowboys will be on primetime and Ark. Tech won't bring many like OBU did, since its a week night.

I hope a few pony fans show up, can still catch the second half of the Cowboy's game. I am looking forward to seeing the team one last time before we tip off for real.

I bet we can all fit in the front row tonight  .

Here is a bit more info about Arkansas Tech, they have a very nice website for a Division 2 team. Bad record last year, they finished 3-13 in the Gulf South.

A&M beat them last week by 50 points.

Here is a nice little fact sheet for the game the fine folks from Russelville, Ark. put together:

Every exhibtion I've gone to over the years has been free, I assume tonight will be the same. If you do go, please post a recap.

It will be free to get in and you can sit anywhere you want, even if Copeland's seat if you can beat him to it.

every person that goes tonight needs to sit as close as possible to copeland and ask him:
why haven't we upgraded moody?
what are you doing to let us recruit at a level equal to (insert your favorite role model here)?
what are you doing to convince the board of trustees and the faculty senate to relax transfer requirements for Jucos?
What are you doing to establish additional majors to attract higher profile athletes and transfers?

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

i dont think he has control over some of this but...we don't have the $$ for moody just yet, but I also haven't heard any sort of real campaign to fund raise for it either?? Surely we could raise $6M for naming rights like i have said many, many times before...

forgive me for my ignorance...but did they move the 3-point line back this year?

Watching the all-access broadcast, it reminded me that as much as we [deleted] about the DMN coverage, the paper sure must pump some kind of $$ SMU's way...I see a big "SportsDay" banner on the scorer's table, and "Dallas Morning News" on the scoreboard.

SMU was up 10 at halftime when I quit watching. SMU had a really frustrating offense to watch in the first half...lots of passes around the perimeter, difficulty penetrating, and when they did get a good look inside they missed most of them.

SMU also looked like they would be in trouble against a team with a good inside game. Three or four times in the first half Ark Tech didn't have much trouble getting the ball deep into the low post.

The team didn't look as good tonight as they did against OBU. Arkansas Tech played zone almost the whole game and it gave SMU some trouble. The same ole thing, lots of passes around the permimeter till they either turn it over or take a long shot. They eventually were able to get inside and did a bit better in the second half, mainly because they were much bigger than Ark. Tech.

A big positive was that The Rack started and looked pretty good. He needs some conditioning, he was getting tired and needed to come out after a few trips up and down the court, but he looked good. He is easily our biggest player, towering over the others and he actually has some good bulk. He had a nice shot, swishing a few shots from about 6 - 10 feet away. He rebounded good and had a couple of nice blocks. When he wasn't winded, he moved good too. We will definitely need a lot of minutes from him this year.

Epps had a good game as well, much better than OBU. He made most of his open looks, including several 3s. Once again, Roberts looked like our best player, he had several steals and took the ball hard to the hole, getting the basket + foul on 4 different occasions. Dez was OK, he didn't look to score much, but handled the point adequately. Morris looked good inside, ripping several nice boards and looking to score with post moves. Of course, I think a lot of this had to do with the lack of size of the opponent.

Pearson was pretty quiet, his shot was a bit off. Killen had some quality minutes as well.

SMU was never quite able to shake Ark. Tech, they stayed around 15-20 points most of the second half, not good considering A&M beat this team by 50. Nice to see The Rack play, however, and Roberts was solid. Hopefully, we can build on that.

SMU will have another lack luster season. Do not get your hopes up. Tubbs has maybe one or two quality Division 1-A players. The rest are projects and players who had no other quality offers. SMU is average at best. It does not look like Tubbs will be getting any good players soon. He has missed out on every single local quality recruit since he became coach. Negative? Yes. True? Yes. The sad thing is about this mess is that is can get worse. You don't believe me....watch and see.
